What will it take for you to finally write him off? I remember not too long ago arguing with James Toney fans who swore that James was going to get down to 215 and beat Wlad and rule the heavyweight division. Somewhere around the Batchelder fight reality set in. I remember not too long before that arguing with Tyson fans some held on all the way to the kevin Mcbride fight but most threw in the towel after the Danny Williams fight. It seems that every time that we have a once great but now very aged and past it fighter there are people that want to hold on to the very end. The Tarver fight was the last time that Hopkins looked very impressive and that was over 2 years ago which is a very long time for someone hopkins' age. BUt people keep refering back to it when making a case for picking him against other guys. So my question is what will it take for you guys to admit that he is not a top p4p fighter anymore. What will it take for you favor another fighter over him? Will it be a loss to Pavlik or will you hold on until he loses to a guy that no one has ever heard of with a 5-10 record?
Bit harsh. Hes not been fighting bums, his last fight was against the p4pno.2 and it was close,he lost but it was close. Hes hardly been fighting people on the level of mcbride and williams and geting KO'd. He might not be what he was but he still gives folk tough times no matter how ugly it may be. I personally think hes gonna beat Pavlik.
Exactly. I had Calzaghe beating Hopkins 7-5 (114-113 with the KD), and I think he split his series with Taylor with his win being a more clear decision. Once I see someone flat out beat him, I'll admit that he is done.
Suppose he loses to Pavlik and recently therafter signs on to fight Kessler or Abraham. Who would you pick to win?
It would depend on how bad the defeat was. Like the other posts say once he has been comprehensively beaten and/or hurt then it would be time, but while he is at least still competitive wheres the harm.
I don't think that there is any harm to it I just don't see how anyone can favor him over these guys. Everyone keeps saying he is too crafty for this guy or that guy and he still seems to lose. I just think that if he had as much left as you guys think we would have seen it by now.
Hopkins while a wanker sometimes is the perfect model on which an upcoming fighter can learn from. He eats right, he lives right and he trains right and that is why he is still fighting and beating good opponents at his elderly age,.
I dont favour him against every1, I just havent seen enough from Pavlik that i can say hes going to go in and knock Bhop out. he was never going to be too crafty against Calzaghe coz hes too quick and crafty himself for it. Im intrested to see how kelly deals with it, you said yourself Bhop last looked impressive against tarver and i think this will be similar.
That's it right there. Looks like even Hopkins admits he won't leave till he's convinced he's totally finished and beat down decisively. Here's a good interview with Hopkins speaking about that. [yt]prOw7Zp8TS0[/yt]
b-hop is still competing at the highest level...he lost on a split to one of the pound for pound top fighters in the world last time...and going up against another top level opponent this time... so while he can do that...and continue at that level..how can you diss him?
I wrote BHop off a long time ago. I'm sure some of you remember my comments about Joe going down to the nursing home, and joing the wheelchair boxing league. However, when he held Calzaghe to a split decision, I changed my mind. He's not quite done. Pavlik will write the end of the Hopkin's story.
