The fact that you had to edit this tiny nothing of a post you wrote over an hour later tells a story in itself, but if you want to see a clown, look no further than post #274

To casual fans & mindless nuthuggers, Toney's official record was a big factor, though to educated observers it was irrelevant; while Jones shutting out Toney was an excellent win, it was obvious James 'Gift Decision' Toney had become vastly overrated.

Toney's undefeated record was bogus. He clearly lost McCallum II & Tiberi. Arguably lost vs R Johnson - though edged McCallum I imo.

When Toney left middleweight he was no longer even rated #1 by The Ring after repeatedly having to rely on controversial judging during his championship run. Jackson was rated above him both @160 & in the p4p ratings. He wasn't even favoured to beat what turned out to be a weight-drained zombified half-blind Barkley. With less pounds to shift @168 Toney did look better - albeit against lesser opposition - though despite his hype he was never close to becoming p4p #1 which some clueless Toney & Roid fanboys claim.

    Meanwhile, moving up to challenge Benn or unifying with McClellan @160 had obviously been too risky for Roid. His careful cherrypicking was already in full effect. However, accepting the Toney fight was a no brainer;

    • With such a major style disadvantage, Toney was tailor made for speedy Roid.
    • Toney's increasing weight problems were now well known.
    • There was a lucrative HBO contract on the table awaiting the winner.
'Ball N Chain' Toney's slow feet looked to be stuck in cement vs Roid, though he would've always struggled to even win a round vs the mobile steroid-fueled Jones, regardless of conditioning. Toney's famed “counter punching” gradually looking more like he was swinging bags of rice at Roid in between being either pot-shotted or tattooed with full combinations was comical. Roid took it easy on him towards the end. I would've like to see him punish Toney after he'd tired.

Phoney claimed he was in “great shape” before the fight - then moaned that Roy Jones only “beat a James Toney was was out of shape” afterwards...for years . He threw tantrums and completely humiliated himself afterwards. He couldn't get over the loss and though he was still in his prime at 26, his career nose-dived. Didn't box for a title for another 8 years. It was a hilarious downfall for what had been the luckiest fighter in the sport during 91-92.

At the time of Toney-Jones, the Lineal/wba champion was Roid's old amatuer nemesis 'Fabulous' Frankie Liles - a more difficult opponent - who as we know Roid ducked for years.

...that infamous HBO contract turned out to be a disaster for the network. Selfish greedy egomaniac 'Reluctant Roy' couldn't draw flies to a dump, yet was allowed to duck the best opposition while raking in up to 90% of the fight purses - plus all extra revenue - to box a string of cherrypicked second raters and kill any hope of long-term HBO contracts for future fighters. Absurd.

Unfortunately for Roid, karma eventually came to collect - via Jones' steroid scandal, disgraceful glass mandible, hideous abortion of a rap career, and pitiful nude “selfies”:rofl:patsch.

Roid is a laughing stock forever, and his fragile glass jaw WILL be shattered yet again :deal:yep:lol:.

Toney was tailor made for Jones.

Jones would beat Toney 10 times out of ten.

Oh Joseph, how I've missed your BS posts.

    1. James Toney was 3rd in the Ring's annual ratings around the time he fought Roy.

    Taken from April, 1994.

    2. A Benn fight was hard to make, due to reports that King wanted future options in 95.

    3. Roy was turned down by Frankie Liles, confirmed by both HBO and Liles's then manager, Jack O'Halloran.
