What's stupid is fans getting all emotional, trying to call quit something else. I'll bump the real thread if this continues.

...and what fan has "to go through what he went through," to see what happened...???...and I would probably be KOd before I had the opportunity to quit.

I don't know of anyone saying that he shouldn't have quit, so what the fuss is about is a mystery.

...just more posters trying to redefine the English language, for the purpose of legitimizing their own perspective.

Cotto fought to win, and then quit. I am positive he did quit, that is stopped fighting when he could have continued. And I say that with no negative connotation.

I dislike what (my hero) did in Pac vs Barrera II much more -- fighting to survive once you discover what you're doing isn't enough.

Cotto fought to win. (remember him punting Margarito with hard hooks even in the losing rounds, then looking onward disappointedly as Margarito didn't seem bothered?)

When he was spent, he quit. He honestly didn't want to take any more punishment. And let's be honest, why would ya? No honor in that, imo.

In my eyes, I saw a man who couldn't even breathe properly from the 5 or 6 round onwards, was struggling and took a ton load of bodyshots and I think his body just broke down and I dont think Cotto would have wanted to stop but his body was talking to him and there was nothing he could do but listen to his body. There is no way in hell that if I was in the ring that I would of carried on, it doesn't make any sense to carry on taking unecessary punishment, he's not getting paid anymore for getting battered and Im glad he had the sense to submit, whether he quit or not shouldn't even be put up as a thread its a stupid arse pointless question.

I just thought we have previously reached a consensus like grown men to recognize he quit, when he knew that was all he had, and that he fought courageously up to that point...that being said, almost nobody sees him as a coward.

    Think of it like this.

If Mayweather did the same thing Cotto did.

He would be a quitter for life.

I agree. I am not calling him a coward and have not seen anyone else do it either. What else could you call what he did? The guy quit. He will be back to fight another day but it does not change the fact that he did indeed quit.

Roberto Duran Quit against Leonard and if you want to get gay about this then Cotto did not quit, he took a knee, then the ref started counting, then cotto got up and then his trainer walked on the side of the ring waving the white towel, he did not quit, his corner threw in the towel but yes if you want to see that as him quitting then you can make an argument for that also, watch the footage again. Either way this thread is DUMB and Im even more dumb for commenting in it lol. Merry Xmas...

Looks to me like cotto quit, but it wasn't the kind of thing where he just gave up like a pansy.. his body had just had enough so he decided to call it quits because he couldn't endure the punishment anymore.

Technically, Cotto didn't quit against Margarito...
