We dont want to get into that one here Eze.
As you well know many of us dont think Floyd would dream of putting himself in the Margo threshing machine to test that theory,so its a mute point.
Cotto at least had to be in there to be accused of quitting.
But weve done this on other threads.

Sanctimonious nonsense. Some fighters have been paid millions and dived for the canvas;cheating the paying customers,tv,the promoter etc......EG Bruce Seldon vs Tyson.
Sounds very heartfelt and pious....but you are wrong.
They are not all Jake La Motta and sometimes quit should be called.
This isnt one of those occasions though IMHO.

Cotto did not quit, like it or not he was one combo away from KTFO land anyway.
(His corner mearly saved him from that)

How did quit ever become part of the fight?

I don't think he quit to be honest, Cotto was beat on till he had NOTHING left. If he continued he would have been knocked down again and again and again, what's the point really?, stand there and take the beating to prove he didn't quit?

It's a TKO, he was beat on till he had nothing left and was knocked out. You can easily notice that he didn't have speed nor any snap left in his punches to do anything, he was actually knocked out on his feet that point and didn't even have stamina to stay away from punches. Staying longer could have gotten him killed if anything so him and his corner made the right choice as he was KO'd on his feet in my opinion.

In my opinion, he was in a situation where either he quit or would get seriously hurt. Some people don't have a stop button, and some people do. Gatti is an example of a fighter without that button, and as you can see, he's now slurring his words. If you want to be tough in the short run and be remembered for that despite the fact that you don't stand a chance, then be my guest, but you will pay the consequences.

Cotto's strategy was to box Margarito in that fight, and Cotto has never been known to be a one punch KO artist. It wouldn't have been realistic to think Cotto could KO another fighter at that stage in another fight. Would it have then have been logical to think that Cotto, who has already been proven to not have one punch KO power, to knock out arguably the best chin in boxing? The answer is no.

So it was either quit or be beaten mercilessly for the last round and a half. Either way, rewatching the fight, it looked less like quitting and more like he simply was in shock and beaten into submission. I feel it's just a difficult choice that has to be made from time to time. People forget that those punches are real because they are anesthetized by their TV screens, but when someone is landing hundreds of power punches on you, and you either can't hit them or you can't hurt them, then quitting is a smart choice. After all, this is PROFESSIONAL boxing. At the end of the day, you're supposed to be as smart in your decisions as you are fearsome in being a warrior.

lol...he had to be in there is right...and again PBF has been in there with some big tough fighters with good chins and has never shown any signs he would gas out....margo would NEVER make PBF stop in a fight EVER...maybe the other way around...NO MAS!!!

I'm on your side on this debate. I'm not sure though which side is correct as to Duran quitting though. One side says Duran was so frustrated with Leonard's antics that he quit out of frustration. The other side says Duran **** his pants and there is some other angle of the fighters that shows this. :huh

Cotto simply had nothing left to give, I don't blame the man at all.

He took the fight and fought like a warrior.

If he would have fought on, he'd have been KTFO in the next 20 seconds, and we would all be talking about a shot fighter right now.
