Me and fellow poster Hoshi were discussing some of the greatest defensive fighters and noticed neither of us are really that knowledgeable about Locche. Was he really that good? Could he stand up to current fighters? :think:think:think
Yeah, he's one of the best defensive fighters the sport has seen. a bit of a ham and a clown though, he's not a very well rounded stylist and not for everyone.But if you enjoy great defensive work and\or a lot of showboating he might become one of your favourites.
Arguably the greatest defensive fighter ever but lacked the offense of other defensive wizards like Whitaker, most of the time he was just focused on making fighters miss and forgot about his offense, with that said hes one of my fav fighters ever and a joy to watch IMO.
The 140 lb division isn't too strong at the moment. The likes of Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse, two of the highest ranking contenders, sound like prime victims for Locche to look great against. His toughest match-ups were probably boxers who were not too willing to invest much into any offense themselves and more polished yet still relentless pressure fighters who did not give him a moment's rest (not Fuji whose crude swings only served to tire himself out) Anyone who tried to punch him out only got slapped around for their troubles. His relieance on the left hand (most notably the left hook) is well known, but in close he could utilize a punishing right uppercut as well. Sometimes he would open up with fairly quick if not overly powerful combinations, such as against Carlos Hernandez. Any offensive abilities he may have possessed are far overshadowed by his defensive skills however. Locche will always be known as one of the great defensive masters, but never as one of the best all-around technically skilled boxers.
