"People have said for years I'm a better fighter when I slow my pace down, use the jab and show the boxing ability I've got."

I hear him say this before every fight. he never does. but, who actually said this, and who thinks it???

Someone said it after he fought Tackie. Problem is Tszyu had set the blueprint of how to beat Tackie, Mitchell had watched the tape and also outpointed him by boxing clevar. So it was common ****ing sense how to beat the man without too much trouble. Possibly Rickys most polished boxing performance but against a man who could, and had, beene asily outboxed before.

I think they're going by performances against the likes of Ben Tackie etc.

I don't know what to make of it. In the last few years Hatton has started most fights with good intentions and boxing well.......but by the fifth round starts slowing down and getting caught.

The question is, what Malignaggi will turn up and what state are his hands in. I also think he's forgotten about Ricky's bodyshots. Malignaggi is not exactly Fred Astaire in there.

The general line of thought is that his best performance came when he outboxed Ben Tackie over 12 thoughtful rounds. I agree, he boxed and moved superbly. He was in his early days a very fast, creative pressure fighter. At world class he's struggled to use these skills and become more reliant on his strength and power.

Just to add... I thin the intention isnt to revert to a boxer, but to find openings behind a jab, something he has negated, as jeff says, at world level. Christ, he was shite against Lazcano. It was just punch punch hold. Really messy and just looking to land a big un. He was getting caught too. If he can jab move and find openings he'll certainarly be a far far better fighter than the reliance on power, stamina and strength at the weight.

i watched his show last night. i must say he does look extremely focussed and is making all the right noises about his work with floyd snr. seems very very confident.
his shows got alot better as well.

there is no doubt that paulie could beat hatton, but i dont think he will, whether hatton slows it down and boxes or not

There's no doubt that if he makes his pressure a little more educated and is not so gung-ho, he'll last better, take less punishment, and do better work himself.

I'm confident Mayweather can help him do this ... but I'm also aware that every camp 'goes great' until the performance is crap and the excuses flow (that's 99% of boxers btw)

no way does the hatton that beat lazcano beat mallignaggi.

if mallignagi turns up with 2 hands, and fight how he did agaisnt cotto and n'dou first time round, he wins the fight, no matter what hatton brings.

if hatton trys to out box mallignaggi, its gonna be an easy nights work for paulie. if hatton changes a few little things (not everything as floyd snr wants), and mallignaggi is not 100%, then hatton can win.

all we heard before the mayweather fight was educated pressure............educated pressure. that didnt happen. apparently everything they worked on in the gym hatton did not do. maybe he just doesnt have the skills to do it.

Yes he does, malinaggi was shite both times against Ngjodu, infact his best performances have come against lovemore N'dou and losing to Cotto. Hattonw ould win rounds through whacking and holding, hustling and bustling. Please dont tell me you actually rate malinaggi?

Having seen Malinaggi fight 3 or 4 times now after hearing all the talk and hype for the last few years I just have the sense of "Is that it?".

A half decent version of Hatton (inc. the Laccano fight) will beat Paulie, the guy just isn't that good.

Bearing in mind his avatar, I would say it's a fair bet that he does, unless it was a lost avatar bet or something! I agree though, the Hatton that beat Lazcano beats Malignaggi. Lazcano was prepared to stand and have it with him and at least possessed the power to stop Hatton just walking through him, neither of which apply to Paulie. I'd actually be more worried if I thought Hatton was going to stand off and try to think too much about it, which was how Paulie was allowed to steal some rounds versus Cotto. For this one, he should just get in his face, walking through the powderpuff counters Paulie throws. Hatton was able to get close to Mayweather, however Floyd's infighting, "slick" defence and countering won the day, none of which Paulie can boast.

edit: Malignaggi is a pretty good fighter, he's clearly one of the top dogs at 140 along with hatton, Bradley and the Holt/Torres 3 winner, however, his lack of power is a big negative.

i have his aviator up because i want him to beat hatton so bad. but i am not like 90% of guys on this forum who were predicting with the hearts and not heads. i generally think malliganggi will win. i always have hattons opponents as my aviator before his fights. im probs the biggest hatton hater out there. i had lazcano and i had mayweather. i wasnt on the forum when castillo fight happened.

his performance agaisnt n'dou was great. n'dou may not be amazing but he didnt gave guys like cotto, shamba mitchell (who at the time was rated highly) and junior witter tough fights. infact cotto did not even put him down. anyway mallignaggi completly out classed n'dou in a way no one else has been able to do.
