Lots of people are calling for a rematch, but if was Booth I'd vacate & reject a rematch. Groves DeGale 2 would just be a stale mate.. There is no way DeGale will fight on the front foot in a rematch. Likewise Groves will want to counter punch again. You'll end up with 2 fighters waiting for the other to blink first. Boring fight basically.. Let them both go their separate ways for a few years, & they can meet again in a few more years for a world title. War mother****ing Groves!!
Ye better they focus on developing and rising through the ranks rather than just getting absorbed by their own personal feud. A rematch a couple years down the line would do nicely. It makes business sense as well. If you wait till a world title is involved you'd catch alot more of the casual boxing fans as well.
Yeah, I agree. I'd give it a year or two. Would be really soul destroying to DeGale if Groves were to win more convincingly, and if DeGale won there's the rubber match and at this point in their careers they dont want to be locked in constantly fighting each other. DeGale needs to learn a bit of humility, work on his movement. Learn to throw hooks with his knuckles, and try and get the European title while Groves gets the Lonsdale belt.
I would like to see 2 fights from each first and then the rematch sometime next year. Hopefully one of them will have the European title by then
An immediate rematch wouldn't be great but hopefully in a few years. Neither of them are the finished article yet, both are still developing as pro fighters.
This is really a fascinating rivalry, we're going to be talking about it for years and it's not over yet. The way DeGale wasn't up for shaking hands etc, we're just watching the drama unfold and I ****ing love it, there's lots to come, did I mention I love boxing right now?
I'm good if a rematch doesn't happen right now and I'm good if it does. If it does then the build up will be so immense it will be silly, and the fight will be great. If it doesn't then it will happen at a later date and both men will do well in the meantime. It's all good.
The reason I would like to see an immediate rematch is that I can't think of an opponent I'd rather see DeGale fight than Groves, nor an opponent I'd rather see Groves fight than DeGale. Does anyone really want to see DeGale fight Kenny Anderson more than DeGale-Groves II? Really?
I think with how the fight was going towards the end and the fact GG got the win, DeGale will be a lot more desperate for this rematch than Hayemaker. I think they'll probably take the win and ride into the sunset for a good while cos I really think they got it spot on and got the max out of Groves. Ya can't surprise DeGale again and DeGale can only do better with a new trainer and new ideas. From a fan POV, the fight was a bit better than I expected to be honest. At first it was pretty terrible but it heated up nicely and there was a good bit of drama with the cuts etc. Over 15 it would have been fascinating.
It was clear to see as we knew these were still 2 'babies' in the ring and the spectacle was what we're looking for and it didnt disappoint. Was quite a good chess match though which Team Groves won and I was thinking when there the little pockets of excited action particularly in the later rounds that the next fight between these 2 rivals a couple of years and hopefully belts down the line could be a CLASSIC. They are both clearly so close an instant rematch would likely be a close win again either way and not get anyone anywhere. Bottle it, dont chase the quick buck for once and this grudge could be installed in boxing history down the line. Ironically, Hayemaker should now take the advice of 1 Jimmy Mcdonnell- "Let Degale go, **** Degale" You got the win George, you are the thorn let it stick in Degales side for a bit now focus on your own stuff
Yep. The rematch would be hyped. They'd argue about who won, who ran, who held, who has who number etc
Not again. Booth will again put in a master-plan, with the same outcome. Degale needs to go back to square one, he didn't look that good at all. I'm starting to question how 'good' Degale really is, maybe isn't all that.
