i've been thinking about something i would love to see on a boxing show, and i think ringside is the only real platform with the format of the show and the resources to do it. dedicate a 5 minute segment to "where are they now?" where they send a roving reporter out to find retired british boxing boxers of significance, and have a brief interview with them and give us an insight to their lives post-boxing. i'm thinking the likes of scrap iron ryan..andy holligan..tony sibson..or some of the older ones still with us like johnny pritchett...them type of names. is that an idea worth trying to put to them ?
i seen those....was very surprised how poorly gomez looked, and in what feels like such a short space of time. yes...something regular like that i suppose.
Yeh it's similar to what Jamie Moore does. I'd rather see a 5 minute slot of that every week rather than occasionally.
Yep I saw those brief slots , a feature like that every week or every other week would be appreciated by most I would think
You might be right about that, it's amazing how many retired boxers end up with nothing to show from their career and heading down towards the gutter for lots of reasons. I think more should be done to help educate fighters about things that can happen if you retire with nothing else planned for the rest of your life!!
Michael Gomez one was, thaxton one wasn't. Then again I could imagine a good few who fell on tough times would want to do this
Aye, who in the right mind would have wanted to see Gomez like that? I hope Sky paid Gomez for barging into his home and ridiculing him like that. I'm not interested in human bear baiting :-(
The Gomez one was very sad. I like the specials on people who don't normally end up in the spotlight, the one on referees and the one on journeymen were brilliant.
Think everyone in boxing needs to look at themselves.Get these big shows like froch v groves 2 earning bundles yet nothing to look after ex fighters.Say what you want about football but at least the pfa get small percentage of tv money which turns into millions and as an organisation they are exceptional helping people like kenny sansom etc Tired of seeing oliver.mccoroy and in particular adam smith discuss "our sport" using words like "respect" "friends for life".In reality i know few boxers ex boxers noon gives a **** when your not relevant any longer.Absolutely disgusting. Sky now they have bought ppv back could donate small percenatge to a cause but of course they won't.
