No, this is not going to be another thread acclaiming the perfect performance and amazing win that Bernard Hopkins achieved that night. This is just a response to a few remarks made by certain posters regarding Tito Trinidad's alleged "glass jaw" - please watch round 10 of that fight again. Tito takes so many hard swings to the face and head over the 3 minutes that it's really pretty damn impressive that he's still standing at the end of the round. Some serious resilience is shown there. And even though I am a HUGE Hopkins fan, B-Hop should've been penalized for continuing to strike Trinidad after the bell had gone, no doubt! :bbb
Trinidad tasted canvas every now & then but he was never hurt (other than v B-Hop) & always got up, usually to win, he doesnt have a Chavez chin but most certainly can take a punch, he`s never took a 10 count so the word glass should perhaps be replaced by class.
Anyone who claims that Trinidad has a glass jaw is a fool. Like Prince Hamed, he could be put down but rarely looked seriously hurt. Glass jaw is a term that gets thrown around too often!
Well you're ALWAYS hurt when you've been kncoked down. If someone hits you hard enough to cut your legs from underneath you and make you hit the canvas, than you've clearly just been rocked... just that Trinidad was almost never badly hurt when knocked down.
You are probably right, these fighters are getting hit by fists after all. That being said, I think some guys use the term on a relative basis in which case it makes more sense, even if the term itself is flawed
Tito did have a good chin...He was in with enough punchers and fighters of a high calibre to warrant being labled as a fighter with a good chin...Seeing he was only stopped once by a bigger and overall superior fighter. But he did show it wasnt quite up to granite level..I think people point this out when putting him into mythical matchups. Fighters like Hearns, Jackson, Leonard, Ceuvas are all mentioned as possible opponents in a mythical H2H fight with Tito..these are all guys who proved that anything less than a granite chin (which like 98% of fighters dont have) could see you out for the count.
I also have to give all the respect to Mr. Hopkins, but here's a couple facts often overlooked/never talked about when discussing that fight: 1. The fight was scheduled for Sept. 15, 2001, in New York's MSG. As we all know, some really ILL **** went down in New York on 9/11, 2001. This naturally postponed the fight, where not only might Tito have had his training ready to peak perfectly for the original date, he had to stay in New York for an extended couple weeks where he was not comfortable, and Probably "lost" hold of his peak fitness. 2. Philly is not far, Hopkins was still right at home, and he stays peak 24/7 - 365 any ways. 3. With the fact USA had just taken the most massive hit and terrible tragedy ever, the Tito crowd in the Garden were a lot less hostile and no way ready to boo anything USA. Just some thoughts, and IMO Hopkins would have won any ways, but Tito MAY have done a good bit better.:yep **Also sorry, I know my lengthy post has nothing to do with Tito's chin, which is your topic here, just wanted to throw those facts out there. Sorry to be off topic.
That round made me a Tito fan. Everyone in the building knew the fight had been decided, yet he went out there and threw everything he had. Merchant's call, the crowd realizing what they were seeing, one of my favorite rounds hands down.
