Totally agree. But neither man wanted to fight a second time anyway.

There was no point in time between their fight in 1993 and 2003 that Bernard would have been up to dealing with Roy.

Roy won decisively. Bernard improved somewhat , subsequently.
    Roy improved more.

He would have beaten Bernard worse in a rematch.

There was no real comparison between the two fighters head to head.

    Roy practised a different Sport.

Roy wins, I completely agree with that, but there's no way RJJ improved more than Hopkins.

Jones' best performance of his career was a year later, Hopkins' best performances were about 5 years later.

Jones became more cautious and didn't make as many mistakes because he bacame more experienced against elite fighters, but that's it.

Hopkins kept his ability to pressure but also added much improved footwork, defensive skills, timing, and overall experience against all styles in boxing, learning how to negate most strengths and expose most weaknesses.

He clearly got better, Jones improved but not to the obvious degree that Hopkins did. Prime for prime Roy wins anyway because RJJ would not be the aggressor against Hopkins, so the fight would ultimately turn out similar to their first with Hopkins taking one or two more rounds.

My own answers to my thread are:

    Hopkins wins scenario A

    and

    Jones wins scenario B.

How was my statement ridiculous? He did look great against cops and garbage men. He did not look great against Hopkins, you may want to watch that fight again. Never once did I say only looked good against cops and garbage men.

Some of y'all really need to stop with this revisionist history.

RJJ NEVER loses to Hopkins. I'd go so far as to say that the green, inexperienced Roy Jones that beat Hopkins in 1993 would be at worse for RJJ a pick 'em fight against a prime Hopkins.

At no point in his career would Hopkins outbox, outslug, or outhink Roy Jones in the ring. And Hopkins is too reluctant to apply the pressure needed to bother Roy.

Hopkins' best chance is that sneaky, quick lead right or a headbutt (watch their first fight and see how much attention RJJ paid to this) or some other dirty tactic.

    Scenario A: RJJ-B-Hop 45/55
    Scenario B: RJJ-BHOP 50/50

If it were 15 rounds I would be sure Hopkins takes it. Not that Jones would have problems with the longer distance but Hopkins would have more time to break him down.

Both are about equal great and will be remembered as two of the best fighters of their generation.

What gives you ANY indication that B-Hop can break down RJJ, one of if not THE most well conditioned boxer of his generation?

Man, you don´t know much about boxing if you call Jones the best conditioned fighter in boxing. That´s laughable. Also read what I wrote it´s not that I think Jones would have stamina problems.

Define break down. I don´t mean he would wear him down and knock Roy out. I doubt this would happen also it could if Roy moves in and Bernard lunges with his right.
Hopkins basically would be better than he was over 15 rounds rather than 12. His whole style was built on exploiting the weakness of his opponent and pick him apart. The longer the fight the more time he has to do so. Easy as that. It´s not important who his opponent is. A longer fight would favour Hopkins against all 12 round fighters.

I did already a short description of how this fight could went in the classic forum, I won´t do this again here. Firstly, I don´t want to and secondly, there are too many nuthuggers here with who you can´t have a decent argument.

So, your questioning prime RJJs conditioning? Wow.

    Got it.

What weakness in RJJ was Hopkins going to 'exploit' over the course of those extra 3 rounds?

Repeating: At no point in his career would Hopkins outbox, outslug, outrally, or outhink Roy Jones in the ring. And Hopkins is too reluctant to apply the pressure needed to bother Roy.

Simply adding extra rounds does not change that.

    Can you link it here?

My mistake, I thought you were insisting that Roy wouldn't look great against an elite fighter, which he has proven that wrong. I have seen the fight serveral times. Roy looked great against Hopkins... He threw some of the fastest combos he has ever thrown in that fight and was switching in and out of southpaw. Not to mention Hopkins wasn't even close on my scorecard. I thought giving him 4 rounds was generous.:D

    Here is what we know:

Jones has a Glass Jaw. He was starched twice once by feather fisted Glen Johnson who has the EXACT same amount of KO's as Joe Calzaghe. Jones avoided a list of fighters during his career at EVERY weightclass he fought in. He is also NOTORIOUS for handpicking his opponents on his terms.

My thoughts are if Hopkins and Jones were to fight anytime between 2000 and 2008 in any wightclass (either Middle, Super Middle, or Light Heavyweight) Jones gets knocked out. End of story. Right now, I would take a 43 year old Hopkins over Jones by KO also.
