i'm not really sure how mma is scored. i've never seen an actual mma score card that the judges use. is it done like: at the end of each round the judge says to himself, who won that round? picks a fighter and ticks a box or writes the fighters name down? or everytime a fighter scores with a punch, kick, or whatever, a judge writes down it's worth? like one point for a punch or kick, two points for a takedown, etc? at the end of the round the judge adds up each fighters points and writes them down on the card? then obviously at the fights end the points for all 3 rounds are added up to see who scored the most points? i would of thought that awarding a point everytime a fighter scored would be fairer than having to think at the end of the round who won it. a fighter can turn it on and be brilliant in the last 10 seconds or so, and make a big impression on the judges. whereas the fighter may not of scored a hell of a lot of points during that round.
It's done with a 10-9 scoring system as used in boxing, judge on aggression, control of the ring/octagon, takedowns etc. Winner of the round gets 10 points, loser 9 or less. Judges write down their scores at the end of each round which are collected and collated at the end of the fight
doesn't seem fair to me. surely a fighter should get rewarded for actual scoring shots? most people thought lyoto beat rampage, yet in the judges eyes he didn't. he hit rampage plenty of time but because he hit on the counter they fight was given to rampage. if they'd of given machida a point for every time he hit rampage maybe it would of been different.?
Well Rampage would have won anyway as he landed more shots through out the fight under that system DW
This is a well recognised weakness of the scoring system, and also it is a legitimate tactic to step up you efforts in the latter portion of the round, known as "stealing the round".
