thats the thing I dont agree with, well it depends on how the punch was landed. If you were getting you ass wooped the whole time, and you time your opponent and land a shot you wanted to throw. Thats not lucky.

But if you just close your eyes and throw in the dark and it so happens you connect. That was luck 2 me

Getting hit in the back of the head gives you a ****ing migraine even with headgear on.

:think really? How does it compare to the same hit on the temple and on the chin (if you don't expect it)?

GREAT THREAD!!! In my book I have a full chapter called YOU MIGHT BE A FIGHTER IF... and I list close to 200 things like this... things that you'd easily recognize if you were a fighter. Good thought for a thread.

Keeping concentrated on your fight plan can sometimes be a nightmare when the other guy lands a good shot, immediate natural response as a testosterone fuelled bloke is to unleash a energy sapping flurry of power shots to avenge it!!! All of which will probably miss :/ so hard to keep focus sometimes.

I cannot contribute anything to this thread...however, I would like to add that the ancient Greeks considered boxing the toughest of contests...and these were guys who were fighting it out on the field of battle so close to their enemy that they could smell their breath...

If you have not boxed you may think weight lifting will help you hit harder and give you an advantage.

If you have not boxed you may think that you can avoid running (distance and sprints) and be succesful.

If you have not boxed you may not understand how important proper leverage, timing, hand placement and footwork is to your overall success.

(From "The Iceman Diaries")...You might be a fighter if... you know that guy you spar with who always stops whenever he isn't doing good. He'll stop and say, "Oh, my headgear is loose" or "wait a second, I got something in my eye" or "Hold up. Coach, here, fix my cup."

How painful body shots can be.

Seriously, a lot of people who casually watch the sport only really get excited or make the 'oooh' noise when a head shot lands, but body blows can be just as deadly if not moreso. I can't even imagine what Castillo must have felt like after taking the left hook to the ribs from Hatton, or how Virgil Hill must have felt after getting that KO shot from RJJ to the body. Body blows can screw you over. I remember being hit with one to the solar plexus and feeling all the energy just completely drain out of my body, taking my legs away.

The jab is also grossly underestimated because it looks so easy/weak.

There is nothing easy about fighting off your back foot. It's very difficult to do. Facing someone that can do it well in the ring is very fustrating.
