Roy Jones put on his best performance post since Tarver 1....... But....Roy Jones was still clearly past his best.....her eis why. JONES is attached to the ropes, he doesnt have the legs to manouvre away from punches, a fighter like Calzaghe/Tarver/Taylor evn would beat him as they dont crowd their opposition like LACY they use distance. Lacy's smothered his own work made it easy for Jones,....Poor LAcy also has never learnt defence. Jones threw every punch in ht ebook, but Lacy has always been there to be hit by every punch.....ask Calzaghe. Jones Legs are gone...like I said no movement no dancing out of the way. Jones got hit alot vs Lacy...LAcy landed flush many times. Jones chin seems to have recovered....I put this down to getting used to the weight again. Jones promised combinations....he lived upto the promise...work with his dad paid off. Jones isnt a puncher anymore....Lacy would have got Kod in 3 with the old Jones...Jones landed sooooo many flush shots, hes definately lost his power/strength. Strength has gone,....was very hard to physically bully Jones in his heyday he was extremely strong...its very easy to drive him back to the ropes now. All in all it was nice to see ROy clown and play with JEFF , I think he knows he can fight at this level ONLY deep inside. Danny Green next....I see another points win
Good assesment. Jones is not what he used to be, in the 90's he was practically untouchable. Beating ATG's like Toney and Hopkins. I feel Jones should hang em up, but if he's having money troubles, then who am I to say wether or not a man should retire, even though his prime has long passed him.
I'm very sure Roy doesn't have money problems at all. He just loves the sport of boxing and putting on a show for his fans. Y'all Must've Forgot.
Apart from the top 5 in each division RJJ would out point them all....even with loss of power and foot work......he still has one of the fastest hands in boxing and the ability to throw accurate combos in bunches. Why not take more fights against these type of fighters for paydays? I think RJJ will pick off fighters that get belts who sit just outside the top 5 in LHW and CW. I know everybody wants to see RJJ vs Tarver, Woods or Johnson but don't think its going to happen.:-(
I hope he carries on enjoying himself at this level, dont want him mixing it with Dawson etc. he could get his redemtion vs tarver in a 4th match make some money .....I fancy him strongly vs Tarver. Glenn Johnson in a rematch may also give him that peice of mind needed b4 retirement
Tough fights for RJJ mate....Tarver and Johnson....don't know if he gets peace of mind from these fights......good chance of getting beaten. He's already a HOF'er but if he beats Tarver or Johnson his legacy goes up big time.
sadly true. while tarver has faded as well a win over him would certainly add a lot to his legacy, just in terms of going for revenge. beating johnson would be HUGE (especially considering how well johnson did against dawson) but then again, he'd actually have to beat johnson
He's certainly not what he use to be until his heavyweight fight, although I wonder if his legs are really that gone or if he just got use to constantly fight off the ropes in order to make sure he preserves his energy tank for the entire fight.... being a psychological issue like DLH said at one point when he explained why he always slowed in the 2nd half of his fights....before Pacman of course !
