Do you think that in todays sport that quote still stands?
People always deem a fighter a write off when he has one L. Back in boxings golden years most fighters had one or two losses before they went for a belt, and most old time fighters believe this is the true method for a fighter to become a true champion, because then he realizes that any fighter on any fight night CAN take his gold, and he must (as a champion) know how to pick himself up, learn from his mistakes, and learn how to lose.....Its as big of a part as learning how to win.

Has boxing gotten away from this? or is it just me

A loss can make a fighter a better fighter if that fighter learns from his mistakes.

    Yeah.

Larry Holmes, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Mayweather, Erik Morales, Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, James Toney, Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, etc..

None of them were true champions because they were undefeated when they won their first world titles.
