The Undisputed WBC title showdown between Maskaev and Peter is the most important fight, they have a greater claim to be THE champion due to it being the lineage of the last champion Lennox Lewis`s belt.

When Lewis retired Vitali fought WBO champion Sanders for Lewis`s vacant title, WBC and RING. It was billed as being for the lineal heavywieght title. Vitali won, Sanders was stripped by the WBO for fighting for the WBC belt but technically Vitali unfied the WBO lineage with Lewis`s REAL title and was awarded the RING belt.
Vitali got injured before his fight with Rahman, Rahman fought for the lineal title and when Vitali retired Rahman became champion, Rahman lost to Maskaev. Maskaev pulle dout of his defence against Peter, Peter became interim champion and fights Maskaev in march for the Undisputed WBC title. The true lineage from Lennox rests in that fight.

The WBO title Sultan Ibragamov holds came about from Brewster beating Wlad for the vacant WBO title that was stripped from Sanders for fighting vitali for the WBC title.
The lineage of that title therefore doesnt amount to much.

Wlads IBF title comes from him beating Byrd who gained the vacant IBF title in an eliminater at the time that Lewis was THE real Undisputed champion. Nobody gave Byrd credit as world champion whilst Lewis was THE champ. It was an irrelevant title which Byrd truly lost to Golota despite getting a gift decision.

Therefore holding the IBF title today from that lineage amounts to less than the true claim as champion which is Maskaev.

Wlad Klitschko is the most famous and well known name but that doesnt make him THE champion now or if he gains the never recognised WBO title and its tenuous lineage which merely flows from Wlads loss to Brewster for the vacant title.

When the returning Vitali fights the Maskaev vs. Peter winner then the true lineage of Lewis`s title which Vitali retired with and subsequently was claimed by Maskaev will then belong to Vitali.

Of course, if Lennox Lewis comes back then he truly holds the lineal title and by fighting Vitali in a rematch of their 2003 fight would crown a true lineal Undisputed champion.

Without Vitali or Lewis then there will only be an Undisputed champion when the IBF,WBA and the WBC titles are unified along with the lineal title held by WBC champion Maskaev.

Saturdays fight does NOT crown THE champion.

Byrd actually lost his title to Golota in everyones eyes and barely scrapped past mcLine so his "title" wasnt of any more worth by the time he lost it than when he won the vacant belt against a decrepid Holyfield who hadnt earned his shot either..
Byrds promoter actually didnt want him to fight Lewis, hi spromoter paid Lewis not to fight him so he would vacate the belt and allow a elimination tournament between Byrd/Holyfield and Ruiz/Jones with the winners squaring off to produce an Undisputed contender to face Lewis in a big Undisputed title Unification, Byrds promoter didnt put the semi final matches together!

HERES THE PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCING THE TOURNAMENT

The linear title doesn't follow a belt around, when people don't lose it in the ring. It isn't attached to the WBC, or it would be the same for everyone. Lewis held the IBF, dropped it, and Byrd got it... dropped the WBA and Ruiz got it... dropped the WBC and Vitali got it. They all got belts dropped by Lewis when he failed to fight his mandatory contender. So, by your own logic... they should all have claims to it.

In reality, when someone retires without losing in the ring... you have to start over.

You could say that. However... in today's day in age, it is near impossible. People have to be realistic. This isn't some designed plan. This is an imaginary title. Basically... if someone is Ring Champ, they are the man. The linear title fell apart a long time ago, and means nothing. So, you work with what you have. I think that Wlad should already have the ring title based on what he has already done. So, tonight will just cement it further if he wins.

Lewis refused to fight Byrd because Byrd wouldn't have lasted a round against him. Don't try to make out like Lewis seriously ducked Byrd, even for a rabid Klitschko lover that's stretching the truth.

Lewis also didn't bother fighting WALD, for the same reason - 1 round KO :yep

no, when Lewis retired the Vitali vs. Sanders fight was recognised as the Lineal title, the other vacant titles held by Byrd etc didnt make them champion in anyones eyes, in everyones eyes Lewis was Undisputed champion, only when he retired and the Sanders Vitali fight happened for his championship did the torch pass. Hell most people on this site already thought vitali was champion from the Lewis fight, he became the champion from the Sanders fight.
Vitali was Champion and recieved the WBC, Ring and did beat the actual linear WBO champion in Sanders, the lineage of Sultans WBO belt goes back only as far as the Brewster win over Wlad for the Vacant WBO belt. A belt that meant nothing as it passed to Sergei and Briggs and to Sultan in fights that nobody cared about.

If Vitali comes back then his lineage of victory over Sanders who beat Wlad will count above anything Wlad has done since. Since Vitali`s lineage passed onto Rahman then Maskaev then the Vitali vs. the Maskaev/Peter winner will be the greatest claim hence since the brothers wont fight each other we will never get a Undisputed champion until one of the Klitschkos gets beat or retires.

I disagree. Its not near impossible. It does however take alot of time, and thats one of the reasons why it takes great fighter to do it.

Lewis did it, Hopkins did it, Calzaghe did it, etc etc

its not true that in today's day and age it is impossible.

If the division is so bad why do you watch it. I think you are full of ****. The heavy division is just fine. Wlad is the king of the division. If your fatass peter was the top dog you would say the division was great.

I didn't say that it was impossible. I said that it was near impossilbe, I and I am talking about the heavyweight division.... TODAY. The Orgs are handing out mandatories, and being completely unreasonable. The WBC title is locked up already for quite some time due to the cluster **** that is going on there. Every promoter is impossible to deal with, beacuse they all want to hang onto one of the titles. Orgs make too much money off of any heavyweight title fight, so they are reluctant to make it easy for unification. Add that to the fact that none of the other title holders outside of Ibragimov seem anxious to fight Wlad, and he can't force them to do anything.

I am not saying that it can't be done. What I am saying is that the corrupt organizations lost their clout a long time ago. We need to stop pretending like a fighter needs to hold every corrupt belt in order to be a true Champ. When you are the man, you are the man, and it is clear. Wladimir is CLEARLY the man in the division. If he beats Ibragimov tonight, than as I said before... he unifies those titles as well and further cements his claim. Maskaev and Chagaev have no claim in my eyes. They have done nothing. As far as the WBC holding the lineage... that is just ******ed. A belt being handed down a couple of times doesn't make you the man in a division.

Klitschko IS the true champion without the need of all the belts and his abilities are enough proof. Going for the titles also proves that Wladimir isn't here for just "big" fights, he WANTS the unify.

Lewis ducked from a rematch from Vitali because he knew the cut was a fluke and diden't happen the 2nd time up he was done like a hot dinner. See how Lewis could litigate himself out of that!

no, he retired because he was 38 and fat, he boxed for 26 years and only didnt retire after the tyson fight because Tyson rquested the rematch that Lewis was contractually obliged to give him, after a year out of the ring waiting on Tyson after Tyson activated the rematch clause he came in rusty against Vitali to fill a date after Tyson pulled out of the co headline that was supposed to happen that night.

He had nothing left to fight for at 38, whereas the 31 year old Vitali did.

Lewis decided to get married and soon had a baby, something he had pledged not to do while being a boxer.
