There have been a lot of upright European fighters having a lot of success. But last night really illustrated the advantages of upper body movement, lateral movement, variety of combinations and hooks. As good as guys like Kessler and Wlad get at this one dimension of boxing, they will always lose to a similarly talented fighter with a more American style. I consider Calzaghe to have a very unEuropean style. Of course there are no good heavyweights around to expose the limitations of the style in the case of Wlad.

Remember guys, being good technically, and being a good technical boxer does not mean holding your hands high and throwing crisp 1-2's, theres more to boxing than that.

I think you're basically on the money. Other things being close to equal, the more fluid, "multiple" style will carry the day. The problem, as you mentioned, with the heavyweights is that the Klitschkos are far and away better athletes than the other contenders and they have a mastery over their technique.

    American style superior????
:lol:Most American fighters get their ass kicked at the amateurs.
Best boxing school on this planet are the Russian and Cuban ones.
If all the good Russian and Cuban amateur fighters were able to turn pro they would dominate most weight divisions.
    Pah! Superior American style!!:patsch

We saw the best Cuban the Cuban amatuer system had to offer. And that was Joel Casaymayor. And he was nowhere near Mayweathers level.

Now who are these russian amatuers you are referring to?

    Amatuer boxing means nothing anymore.

Maybe he's referring to Kirilenko, who got splattered by Vic?

I think this thread jumps to conclusions a little. Last night was a victory for dynamic boxing and inside fighting over a very stiff, orthodox style, but it was primarily a victory for Ward over Kessler. His physical superiority was probably more important than his stylistic superiority. On any given night, with different fighters, one style can still beat the other.

A lot of people thought Kessler was the best fighter coming ino this tournament. I did. In a way I kinda think he is; what he does well he does really well, he just has an inferior style; throwing 1-2's with very little movement or variation, and no inside game, is a style that will lose to more well schooled fighters of similar talents.

    I have!

The judges also all have to simultaneously whack a gopher when a punch lands for it to count.

The American style(s) simply require a talented individual with the determination to pull it off. It requires alot of movement, alot of hand speed and foot speed.

That's why the sloths prefer the standard 1-2 amateur style. That means they can eat whatever they want in training camp, show up when they want to and still fight the fight. The sad thing is they still win most of them.

What they need to do is go back to the winner taking the lions share of the purse. Put the 'prize' back in prizefighter.

Name the best Cuban amatuer then. Please do. Its going to be hilarious your reasons that one of them was as good as Mayweather or Shane Mosley because they could win a bunch of fights with head gear on. Please, im begging you. I really wanna see how stupid you are.
