Well, point is that a good slavic fighter beats a good American fighters. The Americans just have the upper hand in money and power. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4L6ZMtVeSM[/ame]
Well,my tiny Belarus beat the mighty American national squad last time they met each other in the ring. Delusional to think that American fighters can hold a candle to their Slavic counterparts
I care about amateur boxing about as much as I care about PeeWee football or the Senior Olympics. Anyway, as for the money excuse I'm sure there is some bit of truth there, but it's not as if professional boxing has ever been a sport for the rich. Manny Pacquiao wasn't exactly born into privilege in a wealthy country, which is the case with many boxing champions, past and present, from all over. Mexico and the Phillipines are two great examples of countries that are very poor, but have still given us great champions. And it has nothing to do with money and american support and everything to do with LOCAL support. The people there love boxing and support thier boxers.
You mean when Eastern Europeans weren't allowed in pro sports? Cubans have been very successfull in amateur boxing ever since an East German trainer started their programm in the 1970's. Lennox Lewis and now the Klitschko brothers dominate heavyweight because it is a new era of skilled supersozed HW's who don't need the type of movement that Frazier or Tyson needed.

This is a oversimplified generalisation of the so called American/European style given the fact that there are many contrasting fighting styles in both the USA and Europe. Did Naz Hamed have a European style. Kelly Pavlik's whole career is best on the upright 1,2 combo European style.
Y Good point! You are absolutely right in saying this! Russia is not europe, and the Russians are no europeans. The Russian school of boxing is quite different from the european one,and so is the Cuban one from the American one.
Bull****. Comparing amateur boxing to pro boxing is like comparing apples to oranges. Most of the eastern Euro fighters are techically sound-- according to the techiniques and style taught there. Generally speaking, it's fairly robotic and not pleasing visually. I have not been overly impressed with the Eastern Europeans, Wlad and Vitali notwithstanding. The Cubans fight like American fighters, not Euros.
