How would a Haye win over the 2009 version of Wlad compare to some of Holyfield's bigger wins at HW? Moorer 97' Tyson 96' Mercer 95' Bowe 93' Holmes 92' Foreman 91' Douglas 90'
Wladimir and the likes of Foreman, Bowe, Tyson, Holmes don't belong in the same sentence. The win would be comparable, at best, imo, to Moorer.
We are talking about specific versions here though, not overall career greatness, thats the most important aspect. Wlad would hammer Moorer. Foreman was 72 in the shade, Holmes was well past it etc, these are the key factors here. Bowe was still a beast in 93' though.
I think it would be comparable to the win over Bowe. Considering Haye's chin issues, he's going to have to fight near-perfectly to beat the better Heavyweights. I don't think there's much chance of him re-creating Holy's long-term success at HW but a win over Wlad would be a huge statement.
It would be a huge win for Haye, considering he won the Undisputed Cruiserweight title too. I'm just considering the comparison with Herbie Hide, should he win a title at Cruiserweight.
Id say Douglas 90' after the weigh in because you knew it wasnt the same Douglas that showed up for Tyson....Ive never been impressed by Wlad.....This fight will be based on who lands 1st
The fact is while Wladimir isn't as great as prime Tyson, Foreman or Holmes by any means, the version Holyfield faced weren't exactly primed. 90's Foreman was tough, had a good jab and power but he was still in his 40's - and was soon beaten even more comprehensively by Tommy Morrison and started to receive gift decisions against guys like Axel Schulz Holmes by 92 was finished. He'd already been dethroned by Michael Spinks some 7 years earlier. 2 year break, KO'd by Tyson. Then only just back from a 3 year lay-off before facing Holyfield. Tyson was still a good fighter and still a good win, but by '96 he was already troubled mentally after that prison stint, and had lost his head movement, started looking for the one big punch etc. He clearly wasn't primed either. Buster Douglas was just Buster Douglas. He was a fighter who blew hot and cold. Very talented on his day, took advantage of Tyson's off day and produced a brilliant performance. But he was always an inconsistent fighter and Holyfield beat, infairness, the worst undisputed heavyweight champion ever. Bowe was an outstanding win. No questions, he was in his prime, unbeaten, and by far the best win out of all of Holyfield's heavyweight victories. And a better win than one over Wlad. Moorer was a good fighter in his prime, but he seemed to go completey down hill after the Foreman loss, which was pretty bad. He then edged his way to a SD against Axel Schultz and MD against Vaughn Bean. And very had a significant victory after the Holyfield fight. Forget Ray Mercer in '95. This was the same Mercer who was recently 1-1 against Jesse Ferguson - losing a UD before just about avenging the loss with a SD win. And went into the Holyfield fight on the back of a draw against journeyman Marion Wilson. Overall like I said, Holyfield's win over Bowe would trump a Haye win over Wlad. But I'd be hard pressed to find another win from that list better than a win over a prime Wlad. It's probably level with Holyfield's first win over Tyson, if not slightly better. Definately no worse than any of the others. And the Bowe win is the only one that ranks above it.
Cheers. Overall though Evander will have by far the greater body of work at both cruiserweight and heavyweight which is why he would rank above Haye on all of ATG CW lists, HW lists and P4P lists. Which is probably pretty obvious.
I like Evander also if he and Haye ever fought at cruiser............Its like Evander once said " i can take his but could he take mine"....I dont think at cruiser Haye could take Evanders
Moorer. Mercer, and Douglas aren't as good as a win over Wladimir Klitschko but the rest from the list, with Holmes being on the borderline, are better wins.
Vlad is better than the others, he would have beaten Holyfield, look what Bowe did to Holyfield and Vlad is better. Holyfield was an exciting fighter most of the time, but some of his fights were very boring, such as his fights will Lewis.
