A work in progress, how does Vitlai Klitschko rate as an ATG heavyweight?

It was said earlier in this thread that Vitali is a top 30 heavyweight, Wlad a top 20 heavyweight. I think that's a very reasonable and fair ranking.

At this point in their careers, I can't see them doing a whole lot to improve that position, unless they're still dominant in three or four years, which is unlikely.

For some unfathomable reason you're comparing a man who carried plenty of fighters to a man who went balls to the walls every round every fight.

I see it in reverse ... Vitali a 15 to 20 ... Wlad with his glass chin lower ...

While a lot can change in boxing in 3-4 years, I do think Wlad will still be around.

I'm not sure how many fights Vitali has left in him. My best guess is 2-3 more. If this is the case, I like to see him KO Haye, Valuev, and finish his career with either a re-match with Byrd, or Lewis.

One thing Vitlai never did is make his name on has been X Champions. Vitali would have bdaly beaten Holyfield or Tyson in the late 1990's to early 2000's.

I have recently extended my all-time heavyweight list to 20. Vitali is not on it.

I can see Wlad sneaking into the top ten unless he has a disaster in the near future

The author makes a very compelling case but unfortunately statistics don't really do it for me.

Whilst I agree that H2H, Vitali shouls rank pretty high (you have him top 20, I wouldn't have a problem with him being even higher personally) we must remember that neither him or his brother have fought their biggest contender (eachother) in what is a particularly weak era.

Think how Lewis' resume would have been affected without fighting Holyfield, Holyfield without Tyson, Ali without Foreman etc etc.

Obviously it's neither guys fault, but it is a key issue and one of the brothers standing would be vastly enhanced by a victory over the other.

Perhaps if someone like Haye were to beat one of the brothers, there would be a chance for the other to enhance his legacy by beating him!?!?!

I feel like at times they're on the receiving end of criticism because of how bad the rest of the field are!!!

We will never know will we? Considering Holyfields success vs Lennox in 1999-2000, I highly doubt Vitali dominates this version of Evander.

Its much better to have these fading but still dangerous legends on your resume than not, and Vitalis resume is quite frankly **** poor. The best two fighters vitali faced, he lost too.

Vitally will probably not get recognition as an all time great.

He was probably capable of it but the cards just didn't fall that way.

Wladamir will (I think it is self evident) be recognised as some kind of landmark on the heavyweight lineage.

When Vitally was retired (I assumed he would stay retired) I thought that his main claim to fame would be the fact that he was Wladamirs brother. I also speculated that in 50 years time there would be an article entitled:

    "Vitally, the forgotten Klitschko".

Now that is not going to happen but Wladamir is going to be the man that history recognises.

I don't care how many Wlad beats to me his chin is poor and many guys have a shot of denting it. Vitali has a chin of granite and I see him doing muych better. We rate Dempsey with his record. Its a joke.

Lewis fought a 37 year Holyfield who lost a year later to John Ruiz. Lewis never fought a prime Holyfield. It looks good on paper and not so much in reality.
