Reading some of the posts here, I've come to ask myself a question? What if Pacmania never happened? What if in Manny didn't beat Lehonolo Ledwaba, and retired right after that? Or he becomes some fringe contender, unmentioned and unnoticed? Pacmania never got started because Manny never got named Pacman. Just some guy in fiery shorts who got ktfo by two unknowns.

Just imagine that. A boxing world without Pacmania. This site would be bereft of PacDBest's insanity or JohnCo's emoticon barrages and instead be filled by posts on how everybody loves the old days of boxing and the heavyweights nowadays would be ktfo by George Foreman blindfolded. No more arguments about who rules the Mexican Front as JMM would have cleared out the division.

But then again, think about it. Isn't Pacmania what you've been clamoring for all these years? I remember years ago when there were posts and articles about boxing's supposed decline, and every body was giving their two cents on why boxing is failing as a sport. Yet here comes along a fighter, Asian at that, who with just winning against one Marco Antonio Barrera injected 53 fans into Eastsideboxing, let alone the millions in the Philippines who watch him every time he fights. That alone is why Pacmania is important to boxing in general. Fans who otherwise would not have tuned in to boxing had Manny Pacquaio not come along. Fans who would fight for their fighters and would support him through thick and thin.

Yet what was the response? We got labeled as *******s. Apparently we are ignorant of everything in this boxing, yet an average Filipino watches more fights than an Average American. What boxing needs is an infusion of new fans, yet when these new fans come along, all they get is a beatdown on why their fighter would get outboxed by SRL or SRR. They get labeled as idiots who don't know jack about boxing. So much for trying to get boxing back on its feet. You want boxing to get popular again but take it as your sworn duty to beat the new blood and sneer at our lack of knowledge of Jack Johnson.

My point is, if it wasn't us, there would be others. Maybe not *******s, but Khanatics, or Yuriokissers, or Hayesuckers and you'll all treat them the same. In the end though, is boxing really better off without this brand of fanaticisim? I think not.

    cotto fanatic

    Tito

    Jones

    Mayweather

dude the list goes on and on. And they all have idiotic fans claiming their boxer can beat everyone past, future, and pressent. The ******ed post after a PAC win is ridiculas but it happens with every big name boxers. They fans come out of the wood when they win.

No matter what, for every great boxer out there, there will be always a bunch of idiotic fanatics making all these outrageous claims. It's pretty bad with Pac though. There's no problem being a fan of a boxer but its the extremely fanatical ones who are the main problem.

Last year it was the joyboys, before that the Hattonites, its been the Pacmaniacs for a number of years. Puerto Ricans got Tito. The mex-americans for a long time were Oscarmaniacs. Mexican nationals still compare everyone to JCC. You're right. SRL and SRR can kick all their asses.:lol:

We Hattonites are still here. Also Magrito there were a lot of fans their who said he'd beat mayweather. Boxing is so diverse you will always get another favorite fighter coming to the fore. I mean mayweather as retired but the intense debates still go on with different fighters coming to the fore like pac and cotto.

There is no such thing as Pacmania. He only fought in a half full house and had a couple of hundred thousand PPV buys in his latest fight. The only place where he is popular is his home country. That is a natural and good thing for him and for them. But otherwise he is just another very good boxing champion. Americans and Europeans really aren't that interested because he's just a little guy. He is certainly entertaining but we don't too excited.

Is that strictly true. I mean I watched is last fight on setanta and then I watched the replay of the fight with diaz because Iwas that impressed. Many fighters don't sell out the arena, Hopkins and Joe C come to mind.

Speak for yourself, I'm American and Pac is the most exciting fighter in the sport today. It's the big guys (heavyweight) no one really gives a crap about.

That may be true for you and pockets of others but still there is no such thing as Pacmania.

I wasn't speaking about Pacmania per se. I just wanted to present an observation on how people tend to look down upon "fresh" infusions of fandom yet clamor for more mainstream legitimacy for boxing. It just doesn't work that way. When you want to increase the popularity of something, you have to take it in with the consequences.

The title of this thread should be "A world without NUTHUGGERS.

It is ok for all Pinoys to be happy for their hero as well as many other people are or should be for theirs, but nuthuggers are different kind of specimens....they know no limits....it is the equivalent to Hooligans in Soccer.... they can't think like humans instead they act by impulse.

There is a difference between being a fan and being a fanatic.

Fanatics = Nuthuggers = Hooligans in Soccer.

Pacmania is ok up to certaint point, but I would say that is border line, very close to being Fanatic, so be careful hardcore Pac fans. :good

And yes, Pacmania exist but it is most among Pinoys. Here in Toronto some of my friends have watched some of his fights but they are not crazy at all, they don't even post on this board like me. :rofl

Pac would outsell Calzaghe + Hatton combined in their respective home countries (UK & Philli). Pac would outsell Hopkins who was p4p #1 in America, Hopkins home country, yet alone in his come country. With the departure of PBF(even that was arguable) and DLH practically retired, the biggest attraction in boxing today is Pac.

Pac Morales 3 had the 3rd highest live gate attendance ever in vegas. Pac-JMM 2 did the 2nd highest PPV buys in recent years outside ODLH. This is in US where Pac who cant even speak fluent english is outselling the americans and europeans.

Take a bow for the new king in town

Bruce Lee did this for Asian kids in the 70's.

Modified exhaust systems in old Toyotas did this for Asian kids in the 90's.

    Now there is Pac.
