    Strangely enough, all the above aren't stereotypes for Filipinos. Actually a Filipino is a wierd mix of Latino and Asian.

    This kind of thing is common to ALL sports, and indeed in other cultural areas as well (such as music). Fans will lament the decline of their sport or musical group, but when new fans are infused into the activity, they will be resented by the purists, who view the sport (team, musical group), etc. as "theirs" and the newcomers as interlopers who are taking over what "belongs" to them.

    It's natural, I think - and there are obvious inconsistencies in wanting to share what you love with others, but at the same time wanting it to be "yours" exclusively. It's a tension that runs across almost all human endeavors.
