Miguel Cotto is WAY to skilled and Valero has never faced anyone like him in his career, hence why he gets a away with his sloppy mistakes where a good counter guy like Cotto can easily capitalize and end the fight vio TKO in 5 rounds.
Cotto's chin was very shaky down at 140. Corley a tiny LWW without much power was able to put him on ***** street for most of the round. I have no doubt Valero would have destroyed Cotto at 140lbs early in the fight something that crude brawler Torres almost managed on short notice.
a fight between Cotto vs. Valero should be an action packed fight I think it would be a close fight,But i would lean towards Valero by a little.. Cotto had Chin problems at 140,he got hurt and stunn occasionally at that weight and we all know Valero isnt exactly feather fisted Valero by TKO mid round
Cotto wasn't chinny at 140 until he had issues making weight, which started around the Bailey fight. People seem to forget, Valero was a natural super featherweight and didn't seemingly pack as big of punch at lightweight as he had at 130. At 140, I'm sure his power would have been even less impressive. Valero hit Antonio DeMarco with some huge shots, but never at any point did DeMarco seem in serious trouble, and this was the same DeMarco who was wobbled by Anges Ajaho. At his best (say Sosa/Pinto), I'd say Cotto would stop Valero in the mid to late rounds in a fight of the year candidate. But I do think Valero would have had an excellent chance to KO the Cotto who fought Malignaggi.
I understand he was an amazing fighter. but he had not been in the ring with someone as skilled and versatile as cotto was at that time. needless to say RIP to the great Valero.
Valero was no great fighter. Cotto is no great fighter, but he was clearly better than Valero, who was sloppy, not all that skilled, and wouldn't have all-that-impressive power at 140. Cotto that fought bailey would've beat his ass down.
Newsflash: he wasn't that good. His best wins were over Vicente Mosquera, Antonio Pitalua, and Antonio DeMarco. **** like this irritates me. Now Valero's going to be built up like Tony Ayala jr - only worse because of his record...and he wasn't even as impressive to me as Ayala.
Thats your opinion... I have my own opinion on Valero! The kid had an intensity I have never seen, People grossly under rate his boxing skills as well!
