    No, I think he only had 40 odd fights, very little boxing footage but I maintain he was better than Pong at boxing, even though he lacks the lengthy reign Wonjongkam had

    dont know enough about either mans boxing career. I know your a big fan of the bus station, what fight(s) would you suggest I watch?

    I was looking up other boxers from the Borkhorsor camp they have produced quite a few boxers none of them (other than Venice) have more than a few fights, strange. Gonna see what I can find about that camp...

    I think Venice was actually sponsored by a bus company he worked for, that's what he said to Western journo's anyway.

    There is only two fights of him mate; 11 rounds of the Herrera fight, top 25 in The Ring's 'greatest title fights of all time', sadly not including the knockdown or Bus Station but plenty of him rearranging Herrera's face.

    And short highlights I uploaded of a 'loss' in Mexico to Saul Montana (check out his boxrec: startling level of oppo') which shows Venice doing his thing. Being Mexican TV and barely anything positive to show of the Mexican, I'm guessing Borkorsor was robbed. He avenged the defeat back in Thailand.

    Surprised by the split decision for Herrera. Venice looked like he couldnt miss with the left uppercut in the early rounds and later was landing regularly with the left cross either as a counter or lead. Herrera was successful with his assault to the body(he had to take a hard left from Borkhorsor about half the time) but only in the first half of the fight. I know we are missing 4 rounds and a knockdown, but looks a bit fishy. And for a title no less.

    Herrera was so disfigured he scared kids on the way home the next day. He blamed Borkorsor's head, but seeing as he beat legendary flyweight iron man Betulio Gonzalez so bad he cried uncle I'd say Herrera is giving the Thai too little credit.

    Most reports felt Borkorsor had done enough. He was a monster. And he had skill, he outboxed one of the best pure boxers around at the time, Salavarria.

    Borkorsor is the national bus company run by the government kinda like Greyhound in the States and National Express coaches in the UK. Most Thais ie the rural poor use buses to get around the country as they are cheep. This is also the main demographic of MT followers and fighters etc hence a very obvious sponsor for boxing like Kratingdaeng (Redbull) and Gaiyanghadow (5 star roast chicken) as these are all products used mostly by the rural poor hence their close relationship with the boxing world whether MT or Sakon.

    I can't be sure, but it makes sense for a heavy sponsor like Borkhorsor to also have a gym, fund one or be closely associated with one kinda like Kratingdaeng with the boxing gym of the same name and Gaiyanghadow's association with both Petchyindee academy and the CP gym. I don't think they are involved at all in MT these days although I could be wrong and if they are it'll be very localised and on a small scale and probably somewhere up in Issan.

    Thanks for post the vid of Saiyok's debut, heard about it but never saw it. I think it's safe to say he ain't no Jomthong. Sure he did the biz, but boy did it look awkwrad, clumsy and easy to hit, his feet....his combos......:oops: I think Sam A looked better in his debut. Who knows I'll probably be proven wrong and really happy if I am but I think it's safe to say Saiyok aint goin anywhere in the Sakon world.

    Logical thinking, nice work.

    I guess the next thing to find out was whether Venis the first fighter they sponsored and did they get into it through his connection to them? I've got a few sources saying that was his job, and that he had 40-odd MT fights (that seems a small amount for '60s)

    Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread but with all the Pone love around it's only fitting the man that would absolutely merc him fights his way in :D

    Invade my threads all you want mate any Thai talk is good talk! To me it's all related anyway and your insights are always encouraged, enjoyed & appreciated. :good

    A couple of things:

    Can't be sure but i reckon Borkhorsor would have been invloved in MT sponsorship well before the 60s, but I could very well be wrong. I reckon Poot would know the answer to that one as he ran a bus company franchise from Trang when he retired. (I've got a great 30 min doc form the 80s on Poot, just gotta get round to subbing it into English b4 I upload it!).

    The guys from the 60s used to fight less than they do now, less stadiums, less TV ops etc etc. Poot, Diesel, Putpatnoi etc, I don't think most of those guys reached over 100 fights, with the exception of the guys who turned into walking punch bags that fought on for decades.
