Pryor rules at 140. Much too much for Whitaker. Strenght, speed, pressure, punching power, and a totally unorthodox style, Pryor had it all (much much more than Chavez). All fighters he faced were just opponents for him. Whitaker would not be able to get cute with him, although Whitakers speed would make it interesting -- for as long as it lasted. It would not go the distance.
Whitaker all the way at 135 or 140. Pernell did not take a tune-up before the Tito fighta and I believe it was a whole year of inactivity when he took on Tito. Pernell's footwork was not as bad as most say. Off balance he would catch you with something. He was unique as a fighter. I did not appreciate him as much as I should of back in the day, but he was one of the great ones. Pryor who? We can blame his outside acitivities, but who really knows how he would have faired against elite fighters. Arguello was moving up and possibly could have won the first fight if it wasn't for the maracuous second wind of Pryor. Anyway, Whitaker at both weights would win by UD.
Pryor's only notable opponents were past prime Arguello above his best weight and shot Cervantes. How you can come to any of these conclusions is beyond me. Then again you've proven to be a dunce in the past.
I have to disagree with you due to Pryor having major difficulties catching Whitaker with anything with power. Whitaker I believe fought once at 140 to beat the champ and then moved to 147. I remember Whitaker moving the same as 135 when he fought at 140.
What's up? I have to run now due to having my son's 13th B-Day, but give these guys some knowledge on Sweet Pea.
Completely disagree. Whitaker outboxes Pryor & Chavez beats him inside. Both UD losses for Pryor Im afraid & he loses more decisevely at lwt than at 140 vs both.
Gimme a break. Pryor was ranked in the top 40 of the last 80 years by The Ring, and Sanchez in the top 30 in that same issue. You've got people on message boards constantly talking about how Pryor is "unbeatable", and bull**** from countless people about how everyone was "scared" of him and "ducked" him because they saw an HBO documentary. He is NOT underrated at all. Neither is Sanchez. Fighters nowadays, such as DLH, PBF, and Hopkins, frequently get criticized for having lots of quality wins over guys who were moving up in weight, or over guys who were past their best. Yet Pryor gets worshipped when his two best wins were over old Cervantes, and an Arguello two divisions above his best weight class. I guess if these modern fighters wanted to fight big-name fighters in different weight classes, but those big names chose to fight other legends in their own division, then the guys mentioned above would get worshipped because everyone "ducked" them.
Now thats a ****ing good post.:good Pryor maybe underrated by casual boxing fans but he gets more than enough respect on the forums. Usually from people who just try to drop an obscure name into the mix when Leonard/ Hearns and Duran are being discussed so they come across as knowledgeable.
At 135 I think Pernell Whitaker would win. Aaron Pryor would be putting the prusure on Whaitaker. However I think whitaker would be faster than Pryor. Whitaker could also hit with decent power at 135. No I'm not saying that he would knock Pryor out or even down but he will get his and the judges attition with some of his shots. I see this fight going to the cards with Whitaker wining 8 rounds to 4 rounds. At 140 it is a little more difffcult for me to say. Pryor may be the best ever at this weight which makes picking agaainst him very diffcult. The other thing that makes this fight diffcult to predict is Whitaker's limataed experance at 140. He and Harold Brazier both weighed in at 141 for their January 1992 bout which Whitaker won a 10 round decision 100-90 on all three of the judges score cards, and his fight against Rafael Pineda for the IBF light welterweight title which he won a decision by the scores of 116-110, 17-108, and 17-108. Those are his only two fights at or around 140. I think Pryor would be the favorite going to a fight at 140, and Pryor is a better fighter than Whitaker but Whitaker is the better boxer. In a boxing ring a boxer has the advantage over a fighter. The question Pryor knock Whitaker down to get some 10-8 rounds in his favor or stop Whitaker? I think Pryor might get Whitaker on the canvas once during the fight but I think Whitaker will win most of the rounds and win a close decision 7 orunds to 5 rounds. In the end I think the fight comes down to style and not experance or even greatness at either weight. Whitaker's style beats Pryor's style.
