Pryor early T/KO Cotto wouldn't have any answer for the swarming attack of Pryor. He'd try to fight off the backfoot, utilizing his jab and counterpunching skills like he did against Mohamad Abdulaev, Carlos Maussa, and Kelson Pinto. But against somebody like Pryor, he would be rendered totally ineffective and thrown off his game. Pryor's awkward angle shots combined with speed and excellent power would be sure to find their mark. And if Cotto's stint at 140 showed us something, it was that he had a very shaky chin from the weight draining and had to fight in spurts. Not exactly attributes you want to have when facing a prime Aaron Pryor who seemed to have endless stamina and the type of shots that opponent's had trouble anticipating.
I can only see an early stoppage for Pryor. Cotto is a great boxer, and goes to the body with the best of them, but during Pryors reign he seemed almost invincible. He took flush shots from Arguello, who is arguably a bigger hitter in a p4p sense than Miguel. I see Pryor walking through anything Cotto throws and breaking him down much like he did with Alexis. Miguel has been wobbled several times during his career, against Zab, Torres, etc. and I see him being wobbled a fair few times from the Hawks constant pressure and then finally being saved by the ref when he is unable to defend himself. Cotto's a great fighter, but it's a bad matchup for him.
pryor'll do the same he did to blackmore. TKO in the 2nd round. cotto doesn't have the patient to handle pryor's agressivness.
Arguably? Theres nothing arguable about it. Arguello was a much bigger puncher then Cotto... even at 140. Cotto is a heavy handed guy who scores stoppages on accumulation, but really isnt a threat to take you out with one shot. He has Chavez-like power. Arguello on the other hand had SNAPPING power and could lay guys out cold with one punch. It really isnt close.
Pryor ko 6 especially at JW Pryor to much for Cotto although Cotto would make it intresting for a few rounds. In fact id even take Pryor moving up from Jw to beat a welter version of Cotto although that would be a more difficult fight than the one at JW. At welter Pryor stops him in 10 in a back and forth fight but Pryors relentless pressure and speed finally overwhelms Cotto.
Cottos getting underrated and Pryor overrated here, Cotto is a better boxer with better punching technique than Pryor and hes bigger. Pryor wasnt hard to hit either and when Cotto hits him he'll get some respect and hurt him. I don't think Cotto will win, but it likely would be close and hard fought early, theres too much workrate for Cotto down the stretch though, thats why he loses, but its not the blow out some make it out to be
I give Miguel Cotto a much better chance if the fight takes place at 147. But at 140 its Hawk Time. Pryor by TKO in the 9th or 10th round.
