Whitaker had a pretty solid workrate himself. Obviously not Pryor level, but Whitaker was very intelligent and used angles so well, that he’d lower Pryor’s workrate somewhat. Pryor would still get some rounds off his activity and unpredictable whirlwind style but not enough to win. Whitaker would pick his spots and know when to be more active, when to spoil, when to move, and win a 8-4 type decision.
Is this Pryor v Whitaker fight at Jr. Welter? The famous Chavez vs Whitaker 1 fight was for Pete's WW title, with Chavez moving up from Jr. Welter. At Jr. Welter, I take the The Hawk.
Agree. Pernel had knack for making other fighters look awkward, but Pryor didn’t care if he looked awkward. He just kept coming with that whirlwind flurry. Pernel would have to run. I also take the Hawk over Benítez and Leonard.
First off, 15 ROUNDS, not 12. Second, Pryor was a greater amateur and a greater pro. Pryor s style has him on lighthitting Whitaker like paste. Whitaker a tad bit chinny bites the canvas hard in 10. I could actually see Pryor doing to Whitaker what he did to Blackamoor. Pryor was so great. In his prime no drugs, just paranoid, controlled greatness.
Interesting match up .I think Whitaker makes Pryor miss a lot but becomes so busy doing that he doesn't punch enough . Or Whitaker who is an underrated body puncher slows Pryor down enough with bodyshots to gain a close decision . I'd lean towards Pryor because he's has the power to hurt Whitaker and threw punches from weird angles .
First, what on God's Green Earth made Pryor the "Greater" Pro. Care to detail for me his monumental weight climbing title wins? No, Okay, how about his best career wins, surely they must eclipse Whitaker's since he's the "greater" pro by your definition. No, okay, let's move on to another gem of yours which you talk about Whitaker being "chinny" and going down "hard in 10". So which fights of Whitaker's was he ever knocked out in? No, okay, how about this, against which fighters did he seem badly hurt that you could even "infer" he had a chinny chin? No, okay, so WTF are you talking about? Second, you mention no drugs blah blah blah.... Odd, his best win was considerably tainted since he should've been DQ'd based on drinking something else besides water during the fight. "Pass me the bottle", "The water?", "no the black bottle". Clearly not water, and anything not water is illegal and should result in a DQ. So the best win of his career, the win Pryor apologists splooge over, and conflate it wildly with other concepts to make him this unstoppable force.... he cheated during said victory. This leads you to believe he beats Whitaker? LOL.
Listen man, you're cokehead buddy can't keep Pryor off him and hits the deck inside 10. Keep living in dreamland. I really wouldn't be surprised if Pryor got him inside 5. Don't be too down on yourself because you can't tell greatness in different degrees. There are a lot of obtuse viewers here.
This is an intriguing matchup. Physically, they match up well as both are 5'6 and both started at 135 lbs. Pryor has the better hand speed and power. Both are versatile - they can come forward or move laterally. Whitaker has the much better defense and smarts. Pryor's best bet is to box - use his funky movement to dart in and out. If he is too aggressive, he will play into Pernell's hands. I think this one will go the distance and Whitaker will find a way to eak out a decision. He was just the more disciplined fighter in and out of the ring.
