Chavez was fairly strong at this weight. Chavez has a solid chin. Chavez had the most composite offense I've ever seen. Pryor was pure energy. He hit hard. You could hit him hard. He was on you. He was what Ricky Hatton aspires to be. This fight would be a war. Pryor would start, and would not stop. Chavez would take some of what Pryor had to offer, and push him off to land some very accurate debilitating shots of his own. I imagine the Taylor vs. Chavez fight. Then I replace Taylor's speed with Pryor's power. What Taylor did with 6 punches, Pryor would do with 4. I take Pryor by decision in the fight that would do his legacy justice.
i dont think either arguello or chavez were easy to hit. Chavez at 140 was in better shape than alex as he was slowing down. Alx was the better fighter but Chavez had more left. The problem is that I think that Pryor just has too much fight in him and Chavez wouldn't be able to stay with him. Pryor also a good boxer with fast combinations in rapid bursts. This would confuse Chavez. Chavez would definitely get behind in this fight, that's for sure. But how much punishment would Pryor take? That's what Im wondering. Would Chavez busts him up like he did with Taylor? I think Pryor was a bit smarter than Taylor and would survive the 15 to get a decision.
Pryor might get past Chavez in a time machine as long as he boxes wisely (Rare for Pryor) and utilizes his speed and jab... But if Pryor elects to trade with Chavez, I think Chavez would get to Pryor late and possibly TKO Pryor... The 1982 Pryor at 140 pounds against the 1990 Chavez at 140 pounds is a great dream fight... I know Chavez was never a speed demon with his hands and feet, but he was aggressive and accurate with his punches... So I see Chavez falling behind early in the fight, but catching up to Pryor later in the middle rds... Some back and forth action goes on, but Chavez takes control and eventually breaks Pryor down for the TKO win.... NOTE: Chavez would prolly be better suited fighting Pryor in a 15 rounder rather than a measly 12 round fight..... I really see the fight close as hell after 12 rds, so Chavez would need rds 13 thru 15 to close the show..... MR.BILL
WTF? A 1990 version of Chavez is surely better than anybody that Pryor faced from 1980 to 1985 as WBA / IBF champion... '90 Chavez at 140 pounds takes 1982 / '83 Al Arguello apart with little doubt... MR.BILL:deal
helluva match. I think Pryor would put most of the early rounds in the bank with Chavez taking a while to get his feet right to time Pryor. Chavez might come on strong in the later rounds but I don't think he stops Pryor. Pryor by descision.
Chavez had effective skills and was a good body puncher, but Pryor was just a nonstop aggressor. Taylor almost did it, but just didn't have the power. Pryor did, and so his punches thus have more effect. Pryor UD.
