I know that Panama Lewis has been widely condemed re the loaded gloves debacle but, regarding the aaron pryor fight and the 'magic bottle' what is everyone's take on it? was it just psychological from lewis to say it or was it more sinister?

It was cocaine and the only thing that enabled Pryor to get past a blown-up, past his prime Arguello, thus enabling total idiots to claim that Pryor is an ATG.

I would think more likely speed than coke.

No matter what it was, even if it was powdered sugar, it was illegal.

Im in full agreement with you.

Pryors resume is shocking when compared to other hall of famers.

yeah that's why i'm wondering if he was just saying it for aaron's benefit to psych him up.

and with regards to coke being used as a performance enhancer :patsch

Whatever it was it was illegal.. back in those days the only thing allowed was water so whatever he might have mixed into Aaron's drink was beyond the rules no matter what it was.

Yeah shocking that no one really wanted to fight him in his prime.

Well you may have an argument but as it stands he only ever fought 2 people of note, Cervantes who was in the twilight of his career and Arguello who whilst a great great fighter was in essence a fighter who started his career at featherweight and again was coming into the twilight years of his career.

Apart from them please feel free to tell me the other top draw fighters Pryor fought.

Alot of Pryors standing is based on "what Pryor would have done".

Arguello was still a very powerful puncher at 10 stone and his age (only 32 by the way) also meant he had a lot more experience.

Watch the first Alexis vs. Pryor fight, that is the same Alexis in there. Just that Pryor was a whirlwind. Seeing as Arguello loved come forward whirlwinds, you'd think he'd deal with Pryor? No, Pryor was too much for him.

By the way as anyone will tell you, I'm a massive Arguello nuthugger so am not trying to make Alexis out as ineffective. Just that Pryor was awesome. No one really wanted to fight him, contractual disputes made a possible Duran fight never came off.

Int erms of having only past-prime ATG's on your record, Pryor still stands head and shoulders above the likes of Joe Calzaghe.
