Except Duran. Duran skipped Jr. Welter but would have easily won the title. Instead he went up from lightweight to fight one of the greatest Welterweights in history.

Pryor is trouble for any Jr. Welterweight in history and would engage in a rough competitive fight with the great Duran. I rank him just below Duran.

As for actual JW beltholders, Pryor is No. 1. Great fighter in his prime. The knockdowns posters have mentioned were flash off balance knockdowns. I don't remember him being the least bit hurt.

Orange Juice??? All I know is that Arguello was winning the fight and Pryor drinks out the special bottle that contain OJ or not and all of a sudden he turns into the tazmanian devil? Fighting Watt and Mancini has no bearing to fighting the best fighter at 140, but moving up five pounds does make a difference. A guy that fought from 125 on up to fight a natural 140 pounder. Arguello fought Kevin Rooney at 140 and then straight to the best in Pryor. Arguello was never the same after the first fight. I would not believe anything a man that would take the padding out of his fighter's gloves to win a fight. I guess we will never know how it would have played out if Arguello would have won the first fight.

What does Davey Boy Green have to do with this post? Arguello was a great fighter, not a contender like Green and again, Arguello was winning on two score cards. All he needed was one more round and it would have been over.

That was SO not orange juice in that bottle.

Pryor was a beast though..I think he's practically unstoppable at 140.

Pryor makes my top ten(all-time) list but his status god-like status is unfounded.

IMO both Duran and Chavez beat him and KOstya/Pryor is a pick-em fight.

I rate Pryor pretty highly H2h, I think Duran beats him at 140 though.

Your an idiot if you think Chavez would beat him. Pryor would beat the **** out of Chavez. Fast hands and devestating power would back Chavez up, and Pryor had would probaly outbox him too. And Pryor would do to Kostya what Vince Phillip's did but worse. I would however pick Duran over him in a fight.

Pryor would destroy Kostya. The styles matchup favors him very strongly.

I'd take him over Chavez as well, for different reasons, in a good fight.

I could see JCC/The Hawk playing out like Meldrick Taylor/JCC except without the big dramatic TKO. Hawk might take a beating but he would outbox JCC and take home a decision.

Although I've read enough of your posts to judge you as a respectable poster, I think this might be just a case of an old-time fighter being unjustly favored.

Kostya had more boxing skills than he is given credit for(not to mention his power), and that would have given Pryor problems. The Hawk's take no prisoners style would also play into Kostya's favor, allowing him plenty opportunities to connect.

As far as Pryor/Chavez goes; a great matchup, but Pryor beating an over the hill Arguello(who didn't belong at 140) was not enough to convince me that he could defeat Chavez.

Honestly on this board he is a bit overrated. His resume is good but not great and he didnt fight in a particularly deep era at 140.

His best wins are over Alexis Arguello(a true ATG), Antonio Cervantez( 16 defenses in 2 reigns at 140, HOFer), but After these two there is a huge drop off in his competition.

He beat a past prime former Junior-Welterweight champion Alfonso"Peppermint" Frasier who by that time had been fighting 14 years, and Ibf titlist Gary Hinton who was good fighter, but Wholly Average. He fought alot of club fighters at 135, and when he went 140 he was marred by a weak era.

H2H he has to be top 3 at junior-welterweight but based off accomplishments, longevity, and competition, he lower top 5 in my book.
Talent-wise I'd have him number one.

To be fair, as an ATG he's overated on most forums. Hes the slightly obscure name that fans like to drop to show that they are "in the know" when people are discussing Leoanard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns.

But some of them really don't know.

Their knowledge is limited to Legendary Nights.

I've noticed that as well....What I find funny is how people think the amatuers has any bearing on what would happen in the pros. As good as Pryor was, he would be Kayoed by a prime Hearns, descisioned by Leonard, and Duran would be the one he has the best shot against because of style and size.
