It is well documented that "Sugar" Ray Leonard wanted no part of " The Hawk", and in my opinion Floyd Mayweather is only beatable with pressure which " The Hawk" did in a very unique way alot of speed and alot of power. How does The Great Floyd Mayweather do against Aaron Pryor at 147lbs ?:think:think

imo aaron pryor roughs up pbf on his way to winning on points. really tough call though. it could easily go either way.

i'm of two minds (i know it's the cowards road ;)

but here's why. they both had styles/vulnarabilities that could destroy the other one

1-flyod does not do well with up tempo pressure fighters--castillo and even old oscar at times made him look uneaasy and the haw was as up tempo as there has ever been and put LOTS of relentless pressure on his man

    but...

    2) pryor was not hard to hit and flod is one of the most accurate punchers ever and i wonder if he would move and catch the hawk and wear him down

i'd have to say that pryors will and indominatable spirit might be the difference---when he had adversity--like when AA tagged him he'd just press on...while floyd has seemed more shaken when hard moments come 9even against zab at the start he looked uneasy when zab tagged him with some straight lefts)

I think you mean 140. And at 140 it would be a great fight. Pryor was not this unskilled all out aggressive guy. He had great movement and speed and power. I think Pryor would of kicked a whole lot of 140 ass especially he would of roasted Tsyu.

    Floyd Mayweather Jr. by UD.
(After "The Hawks" Gloves are checked and Panama aka "Plaster" is found)

Whenever there's a poll on this fantasy match-up (and there have been a few) people usually vote for Pryor pretty overwhelmingly. I don't know if this is because they don't like Floyd or just because it's their honest opinion, but the truth is we've never seen Floyd faced with this kind of fighter, so it's really hard to tell. Mayweather HAS been in with swarming, high-pressure guys, like Jesus Chavez, Castillo and Hatton though, and while they certainly weren't in Pryor's class, they made Floyd pretty uncomfortable. However Floyd did convincingly beat them in the end (ppl will bring up Castillo 1, but in a matchup like this you assume that both guys are at their best, and Mayweather was injured in that fight; the second time, injury-free, he clearly won).
But again, Pryor was better in every departement than all of those guys.
I think it's a toss-up, but i lean toward Pryor. There's just nothing Floyd could throw that would make Pryor leave him alone, and while Floyd would be smart enough to know that he'd have to crank up his punch output for this one, he'd still wouldn't be able to match Pryor's workrate, and get outhussled.

But maybe we should wait until Mayweather has fought Pac (wishfully assuming he ever fights him) and then discuss this one again, we'd have much better idea of how he would deal with that many hard punches from a guy who never stops.

do u really believe that leonard was scard of pryor and took the easy road by fighting chumps such as duran, hearns and hagler?

absolutely. those guys a much easier target sygar ray speed too much, but pryor lots of unrelenting spped and power and a good chin to go along with it a true workhorse. ( and believe it or not i'm not a bias fan of pryor's).

Leonard wasn't scared of nobody, his resume proves that. But it's been said many times by people close to the situation that Pryor used to work Leonard over in sparring. That's likely an exaggeration, and even if it's not, sparring is still not the same as the real tihng.
But i think there's something to be said for the theory that Leonard didn't want to fight Pryor because he knew that Pryor was as tough an opponent as anyone out there, while not being a big box-office star inspite of his quality as a fighter and the entertainment value of his fights. To make it short; it was probably the old risk-reward ratio that kept Leonard away from Pryor.

i agree with richie leon on we'll probably have more insight when Manny Pacquiao ( who actually reminds me more of a young duran than aaron pryor) mixes it up with Mayweather.

    Mayweather UD.

Pryor whilst a very good fighter is one of the most overated fighters on this board.

He only ever fought two A level fighters one was past his prime and the other was also at the tale end of his career and not a natural 140lber.

Pryor would give Mayweather some scary moments but i think Floyd would find his rhythem and secure a UD.

pryor would win ,mayweather has never had to fight a man like pryor who is going to chase and punch as fast as mayweather can move backwards and mayweather wont be able to hurt pryor. ud pryor

True, Pac is not exactly like Pryor was, but he's the closest thing we have in today's scene.
