How about some planks with an ab wheel. Arms fully extended.

Believe it or not, hindu push-ups actually work the abs pretty well. Give 'em a try.

work the core as a whole, dont isolate your abs.

    1. 50 medicine ball rotations
    2. 50 scissors rotations six inches off the ground
    3. 50 sit ups - hanging from a pull up bar

I second the L-sits, alot of "fun". I like to include them at the start of a circuit and make sure I include the lower abs somehow in the next two exercises to make it burn. eg) :30 second L-sit, 20 leg raise to hip thrusts, 20 knee hugs as an example.

    try this circuit
    15 V-ups
    15 Knee hugs
    15 chinnies per side
x4 rounds, 1:00 rest between rounds

still feel the proper hanging leg raise is the best ab exercise.

Do medicine ball slams on the abs really help train the muscles to absorb blows or maybe its physiological training?

i think its mainly the psychological side of it ie taking punishment thought it has been said that it works the abs as you are tensing and contracting the muscles to take the shot. However not sure how effective it is.

Agree with L sits... very, very good exercise.

Nice little circuit that I like...

    45 seconds v sits
    45 seconds flutter kicks
    45 seconds chinnies
Bridge to stand (hold bridge for 45 secs)

If you can't do 45 seconds, start with a time that you can manage and build up as you improve.

Yeah I love these always sore the next day. I do them with a 12lb weight for extra resistance.
