Looking forward to watching the seven lads from my region box, Spragg, Leather, Fusco, Martin, Cunningham, Maphosa and Ritson. All good lads as well.
Got to disagree on this one sorry big Andy. I really hate Zbik as a fighter, not bad offensively but it's not anywhere near enough to compensate for his clear lack of defence IMO. The workrate is the only thing that could give him an advanatge in this one because for all of Sturm's pluspoints (decent high guard, pinpoint jab, nice at putting combo's together) you can never be confident backing him due to his lack of willingness to really throw a lot. However, I'd expect him to do better tonight than he has done vs either Macklin or Murray. I'd consider both Brits to be better, more rounded pressure fighters than Zbik and I imagine Sturm's quality will come through eventually and get him it on points with him taking over in the 2nd half of the fight. But Sturm clearly is there for the taking now, as was showcased in his last 2 performances. I'm just backing him to win tonight because of my disdain for Zbik in all honesty.
Bateson is quality & only 17! He did some good work, I like how he uses his left hook & finishes combinations with it. He's an exciting prospect & that was a good start to the night :bbb
Maybe I'm taking a bit too much from Zbik's performance vs Chavez? :think Good points there :good. I thought Zbik beat Chavez Jr (116-112) solely on his workrate and improved combination punching. I'd only ever seen him vs Spadafora before and he looked poor; typical style from that part of Europe (Very Seb Sylvester-ish) without much at all to laud about. Then against Chavez I thought he looked much better. Improved engine, workrate, he looked less stiff and more versatile. I thought he lost on the cards because he couldn't carry the pace but he'd essentially changed his style almost completely so it's hard to criticise him too much for it. I actually liked that showing form Zbik, personally. It depends on how Sturm is looking at this fight. If he thinks 'Finally, a break from these Brit fighters, time for a boring slow paced german chess match', then he'll be in for a shock IMO. If Zbik works as hard as he did vs Chavez, then he'll throw higher in volume than even Murray did vs Sturm and if Sturm isn't on his game then he'll lose IMO.
Cunningham goes to the same uni as myself and is also an instructor in the gym, so is a familiar face even though I don't know him that well. I've seen some of the S&C work he does as part of my course also. Seems a good lad and I'd like to see him win tonight.
I wonder if these lads have many fights this season outside of ABA's. They seem to be tiring and seem tense. Obviously it being a final don't help but no fights to get there and one fight for the other is shocking to me..
