    A greatly under appreciated one—if you get hurt in training, you train through the injury.

    Electrolytes (salt, magnesium, potassium) are needed or your kidneys will shutdown, heart will develop arrhythmia etc. You sweat these things out. Drinking water straight will dilute the concentration of electrolytes in the blood.
