I'm just about to watch the entire telecase of Night of Gold. Evander Holyfield, Pernell Whitaker, Tyrell Biggs, and Mark Breland all make their professional debuts. Which fighter mpressed you the most? Who did you think would develop into the most successful professional? Discuss. :think
I remember that night. I think it was Madison Square Garden. Not sure if Virgil Hill fought on that card since he was silver medalist.
Who the **** is this kid they matched Holyfield with? Lionel Byarm. He's taking bombs and still firing back. A very tough debut for Holy.
Holyfield took on a 10-0 guy on his debut, IIRC. Which is unheard of today. Evander told Duva to not disrespect him when he was offered a guy with a losing record. What a warrior.
Most of this class were matched tough and well from the start. Breland was the exception.it was as if they knew he was going to be a let down.
I remember that; it was aired on prime-time TV, it was such a big deal. Lionel Byarm looked a lot like Joe Louis facially, didn't he? I think he was the Pennsylvania State heavweight champ at the time. Taylor impressed me the most, because I knew Luke Lecce had taken contender Charlie "White Lightning" Brown nine rounds before succumbing, and Taylor waxed him in one. I remember they booed Tyrell Biggs' decision over Mike Evans, who had been featured in a beer commercial before that bout. It's funny, the goofy **** you remember this far along..........
