Explain why Joan Guzman is #3 in the WBA at 135 and #1 in the WBO at 135 if he has ZERO previous fights at 135, while other fighters like Campbell had to fight eliminator after eliminator just to get into the Top 10 of their organization. And they wonder why Wrestling has more mainstream acceptance than Boxing.
Rankings are just that, what the sanctioning commission believes the fighter is ranked at. Therefore, a guy like Guzman at 135, despite no previous fights, can be held as part of a subjective discussion to work out where he should rank based on his skills and credentials.
because the WBO want guzman to fight for their belt at 135, like he did at 130 and was supposed to at 126 and did at 122.
By that logic, we should have let the New England Patriots bypass all the playoffs until the Super Bowl.
I don't get this thread. Where exactly should a boxer be ranked when he moves up in weight? Boxing rankings are a subjective analysis of who the best fighters in the division are. If a good fighter enters from a lower division, then you have to insert him where you think he belongs. Comparing boxing to football is pointless
Are you kidding me? I was one of the few posters on this forum who was calling for Pac-Guzman when they were both beltholders at 122, unlike most of the Joan ballhuggers like you who attached their jaws to his nuts when he beat Barrios. If Guzman fights 2 Top 10 fighters at 135 combined with a Pacquiao win over David Diaz, I would like to see him get a shot by summer 2009. You're missing the point of this thread. My point is that Guzman, Pacquiao, NO fighter should enter RANKINGS in a new weight class until he has fought at least ONE fight at the weight. An example is Mayorga who never fought at 154 but was pushed into a WBC title fight against Piccirillo (when the plan was for him to fight Oscar for the belt all along).
And Ramshall, don't cry because your boy Marquez ate it. Here, have a look again to remind yourself. <====
So for a guy like Nate Campbell before he got his shot at Juan Diaz...let's say Campbell was still a struggling contender who had put his body out there 2-3 times in eliminators...then Guzman comes along up from 130. Is it right for Guzman to take Campbell's hard earned spot just because the WBO "thinks he belongs there?"
Please. The majority of my posts are about non-Pacquiao threads. It seems like you've been long enough on this board to wax your lips. Margarito is a good fighter, but fans like you are a disgrace.
well if you win an eliminator then the WBO is contractually obligated to let you fight the champ no matter who comes into the division. but say Guzman moves up to 135, then if he is better at 135 than whoever is for example in spot #2 (of course we don't know, the WBO has to make an educated guess), then Guzman should be ranked accordingly. Regardless of whether other guys have paid their dues at 135. Guzman has also paid his dues but at 130 and its the same sport. Moving up in weight may drop your rating a little bit but it doesn't flush you down the toilet.
