Really good footage. I liked what Mason was doing when he kept timing Schofield's explosive leaps into range. Kept punishing Schofield with the jab and check hook to deny him the ability to close distance in the way he usually does. Schofield's footwork was all over the place and he looked a little limited in this footage. Both men have pretty promising ceilings though I think. Schofield Sr. really annoys me though, I think he's gonna join the long, storied lineage of boxing dads who are arseholes. More people should watch sparring footage btw, just as a side note. It can be really fascinating to see ATG fighters at their most relaxed and willing to experiment or dig around in their toolbox. I love film-studying sparring, it's helped me add a lot to my style personally.
I wonder if the boxing dads are actually that bad or just take the negative parts away from their sons. They tend to do the trash talking for them and do a lot of unpleasant things the fighters are spared this way. But I'm probably missing a lot since I don't follow social media and only ever hear it second hand...
Great video. Even though it’s just sparring Abdullah Mason definitely got the better of Schofield, especially with that body shot that had him hurt. Mason’s jab and defense is on point here. Very talented young fighter. Schofield is good too and will only continue to improve as he gets older. I can see these two facing each other eventually in a few years.
