Yes because long highly regarded (but mismanaged) prospect Mike Perez is an "0-50 journeyman".

Abdusallamov is a top 15-20 HW and would knock out some ranked contenders. I just don't think he possesses enough to hang with any dynamic well-rounded elite or even near elite HW who can take or avoid his power.

Does that description fit Perez? I honestly don't know yet - which you would clearly see to be my stance from my initial reply in here. I said on skill alone Perez walks it - but he could be hiding some glass (yes even after facing Walker) and/or some bad defensive habits that rent a slow guy might exploit and time. If he can't handle even a partially blocked love tap from Mago without crumbling - well, then he is every bit as incomplete and unfit to seriously contend as Mago, for different reasons.

They were never really hiding from one another, but it's just a new crop of journeyman and gatekeepers has arisen and they just havent settled into that losing or going inactive attitude just yet.

Guys like Chisora are a tough fight for a lot of guys, just like Monte Barrett was 10 yrs ago.
You got guys like Cunningham who will NOT win a big fight at HW, but he will be considered a top 25 so long as he's still beating journeymen. Much like a Brian Minto or a Shane Cameron were 5 yrs ago.

Audley, he was a young promising contender 7/8 yrs ago, and now he's nothing more than a rite of passage for heavy handed fighters.

Guys like Walker are filling roles of gatekeeper nowadays, when 5 yrs ago he was genuine top 25.

In a few yrs, several of these new faces will settle into the roles filled currently by the Audleys and the Sprott and the Bydenkos and Walkers, and a few of them will become the Potvetkins and the Haye's and MAYBE, just MAYBE, we'll get a Klitschko out of the bunch.:thumbsup

A lot of heavyweights are fighting each other now, except for Wilder who only fights unranked winos, has beens, etc., from the alley.............

They are all positioning themselves to take part in the race for the WBC belt.

    BUMP!

Not to rag on Magomed, as I wish him nothing but the best in his medical recovery...

...but ESB was overtaken by Magomed worshipers for a while. It went from Helenius to Charr to Magomed. Just ESB'ers falling in love with a decent but completely unproven (Helenius was most proven to be good, pre-Chisora) European HW with blatant flaws.

Not that Perez is the most special thing ever, but I was shocked that so many thought Magomed would win. People just fall in love with the power and that's all there is to it.

He ate it hard all night in this fight. A terrible result for him. It was a good action fight and one of the better HW fights on mainstream American TV at least in a while... I thought a long while about boxing after this (EDIT: not as in boxing myself more than I do, but just "about boxing" in general). Felt horrible when I read the news the next day for having rooted for and cheered when Perez had his good moments in the fight.

And this is why we watch boxing.

I love having an opinion on an upcoming fight, being in the clear minority, being very confident, and then being proven correct.

Terribly prophetic, just the other way around. I wonder if the OP ever reflected upon his words.

Not exactly a fight that one should be grandstanding about.

In fairness he's only looked like that since the Mago fight. He showed good stamina in this fight.

I think it destroyed his passion. What a fight it was though, the best heavyweight fight in year.
