I think Ward may be a bit like Winky Wright and Bronco McKart were when the were at the peaks, and battling over control of 154. Neither is known as a big puncher, and yet, anyone who tried to bum rush either guy got his ass kicked. Sometimes accuracy, speed, and good punch selection mean more than brute power.

Abraham's face was untouched. He did not ever look like he had been in a fight at all. Bute would knock Ward out, has more power, speed, etc.

Agreed. Winky probably could've had more power than he did if he committed to his punches more, but he preferred to remain on balance and defensive. Still, both of them show that you can keep people off of you with accuracy and technique.

 

Case in point: Rubio has way more punching power than McKart, but Rubio never came close to hurting Pavlik, and he never really hurt Ornales. McKart scored a flash knock down on Pavlik, and put Ornales on his ass twice.
