I rank him #4 all time at FW, based solely on fights contested in & around that divison.

According to my notes he was 107-10-20 in fights contested in & around FW.

He went an astonishing 24-3-3 in FW world title fights. That inlcudes a loss to the excellent Benny Yanger when Abe was only 19 & a loss to Tommy Sullivan where there was some controversy that Attell was the victim of a low blow foul. It doesn't include his loss in a defence to Freddie Welsh who was over the limit at 128lbs. Admittedly a lot of his title defenses were no decision bouts and there were plenty of weak defenses.

To put that 24-3-3 in FW world title fights into context, only Joe Louis won more lineal world title fights in any of the original 8-weight divisions in history (according to my notes, apologies if I've missed someone).

Attell beat ATG, but past prime, George Dixon (1-0-2), Johnny Kilbane (1-1) who went on to reign at FW for 11-years after Abe, the brilliant Owen Moran (2-0-2), Harry Forbes (3-1-2), Jimmy Walsh (4-0-1) and Charley White x 2.

My top 6 at FW is as strong as a top 6 in any division, imo, and I could reasonably see Attell, and all of the below apart from Pep, ranked anywhere between 2 & 6:

    1. Pep
    2. Saddler
    3. Saldivar
    4. Attell
    5. Sanchez
    6. Dixon
