Morrison was the better fighter overall but the Version of Simon who gave Louis a tough match the first time around would have been a live Opponent against Morrison.
I've only seen Simon in his rematch vs. Louis, and he was stumbling around and getting pummeled like 90% of the time, but he did show some durability in hanging around for awhile. Wondering if Tommy would elect to box Simon, the way he did with Foreman, and not potentially burning himself out early as he did with Mercer. Looks doable against Simon...
Yeah no, I think Simon's shortcomings are not due to Louis. Louis exploited them, true, but it is pretty clear what we are seeing here. This is also Simon's coach's fault. Anybody on this board would have told Simon to hold when close, lean on Louis, maul him into a corner and basically try and rough him up there. Use those extra 50lbs. Instead he tried to jab with Louis (lol) with his jab that was slower than Foreman's which he sometimes left hanging out there like a pole.
Seriously — does he not realize that statues are usually built to recognize someone’s greatness in their field or in history? Simon was a walking Lincoln Memorial, the boxing equivalent to that other Abe.
He did try to lean and maul Louis against the ropes but he was too slow to be effective. This is a rematch. Perhaps he based his tactics here on what was working in the first fight, but Louis was always very good in rematches.
