Doing the boxrec shuffle this moring (look up one guy's record, click on another interesting guy to see who he fought...and so on), and this guy came up. He was a 6-4 Hvyt. in the 50's, and he sure looked the part of a y2k athlete: http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Human:12457 What was his deal?
Not only do I remember Abel Cestak, I saw him fight once in the mid 1940s at MSG, against a guy who made the 6ft4" Abel Cestak look like a midget. His opponent was Big Ben Moroz who was about 7 feet in height and Cestak won the bout. Forgot the details but Cestak was a powerfully built guy groomed to be the new Luis Angel Firpo...He beat a lot of opponents but lost to the top heavyweights such as Bob Baker and the much smaller Archie Moore...Big and STRONG doesn't necessarily mean BETTER. Give me a strong faster puncher like Dempsey or Joe Louis, as they get there "fustess with the mostess"...
