Abel Sanchez: “Canelo will stop Kovalev in 7-9 rounds”

This is the guy who was at one point the trainer of unknown fighters named Golovkin and Kovalev and proceeded to lose both of them. I'm surprised anyone interviews him.

 

Don't worry, your gut instinct is correct. Canelo isn't going to be able to target Kovalevs body for the same reason GGG couldn't target Canelo's.

 

I'll never forget the look of pride and joy on Sanchez's face in those post fight interviews discussing the loss to Canelo.
Never seen anything quite like that. He was about as gutted as George Groves the night he finally won the world title.

There’s a reason why both Kov and G left him and, if Gassiev knows what’s good for him, Murat will walk away too.
I’ve never understood his antics in front of a camera but his corner work in Usyk vs Gassiev sealed the deal for me as far as his trainer skills are concerned.

Goddamn I sure hope CST and Kirk are right about this. Because in my mind, Canelo woudn't take this fight unless his team was at least 90% sure they would win. He's the superstar with the momentum behind him. And historically, guys like that don't lose.

 

If GGG was prime, and was moving up to fight an ageing and fading Kovalev, who would you pick? Who would you say has a better style to deal with Kovalev... Canelo or GGG? Who would Kovalev have more trouble finding, a guy who moves his head and slips well or a guy who keeps his head still? Who shows more inclination to go to the body, Canelo or GGG?
How much harder than GGG does this ageing Kovalev hit?
Has Kovalev shown weakness boxing at range or up close? Who is more likely to get in and fight close, Canelo or GGG?

Who has been rocked by light punching Ward to the head? Who was stopped to the body by Ward? Who got knocked out by a B grade fighter? Who almost got stopped by Yarde, a crude and inexperienced boxer?
Has Canelo shown chin problems against Light Heavy Jacobs, or GGG?

I ask myself these questions and make these comparisons and I can’t really see how Kovalev is meant to win the fight. I know we’re conditioned to think that a good light heavy beats a good middleweight, but that’s not always the case. We’ve seen BHop move up and mug Tarver. I wouldn’t be surprised if the extra weight improves Canelo’s stamina.
Canelo is going to be a lot faster than Kovalev, Kovalev isn’t used to punching down at a moving target.

Canelo stops him, I don’t see anything else.

 

Sanchez claiming Golovkin ko's cruisers and heavies in sparring pretty much sums up this prediction for me. He's full of ****
