This. Before the Dazn deal was on the table Sanchez had already shown disloyalty wanking over Canelo, knowing what had gone on as you say he still overly praised him !
Golovkin though he had Pirog as an opponent but injury robbed him of that. It can happen. I wouldn't taken anything Sanchez says as gospel just yet. He's said a lot of nonsense in the past that I've been quick to dismiss. And even if this is over money, he's clearly had his due in the past which coupled with the success they had together would make me think he'd want a classier, more amicable split. Apparently not.
Sounds like Abel was on a % deal with GGG and now GGG has a supposed $100m deal he like a lot of fighters do probably went back to renegotiate with Sanchez. If for arguments sake Abel was on a 5%-10% fee for GGG if he thinks GGG is still going to give him that kind of money for 6 fights thats $5-10m. GGG probably offered him a flat rate and Abel cut his nose off to spite his face and is left with nothing. When the top guys start earning big money they usually agree a flat fee with their trainers. By all accounts GGG isnt a bad guy so it sounds like Abel got a little greedy for that DAZN money.
The arrangement would work both ways... Abel built a solid gym and roster off of GGG name also in that period and the money he can charge other fighters will increase. No coach in the world would say they would expect to make $1m off of a fighter who also has to pay taxes and promoters and manages etc. When the purses go up most trainers get flat fees. The fighter steps in the ring, goes through the camp and should get the glory. On top of that the manager will be the one who is negotiating the purses and contracts. The trainer is an essential aspect but $1m is a lot of money to be giving away for 8-12 weeks of part time work. Granted GGG is his own promoter now but from the point that if you was to give the following away 10% to the trainer, 20% to promoter, 10% to manager. You are left with $6m then deduct costs of training such as accomodation in camp and sparring partners etc and 45-50% tax. GGG would be looking to walk away with $3-4m maximum and all of a sudden that $1m looks very steep. If he was on a flat fee of say $250k and GGG fought twice a year Abel is making very solid money on top of his other fighters and gym.
Maybe if Sanchez didn't go around telling how he thinks Canelo won the fight whilst GGG got jobbed he wouldn't land in this predicament.
DAZN probably had a performance related contract with GGG and the 6 fight/$80,000,000 deal would only be fulfiled if GGG won all 6 fights to get the maximum money. If he lost a fight, he would take a paycut or roll it onto the next fight. GGG probably told Abel the same thing "if we win, I'll give you the 10%, if we lose, I'll give you 5%" and Abel felt offended by it. Maybe. Money does funny things to people.
**** both of them. GGG has turned into a total sellout, just go back to Boratville and stay there dude. I could never stomach Abel, he always seemed to be a slackjawed clown, he's said some pretty disrespectful things about fighters in a way you'd never hear most other trainers say, like Robert Garcia who actually was a professional fighter. I never really bought the whole GGG nice guy act, so this isnt surprising. The only thing I can think of as a reason for him doing this besides being a complete ******* is that its his form of payback for Abel and his mouth after the second Canelo fight and his shockingly disloyal praise of his fighters opponent and dropping the entirety of the "L" on GGG. Like GGG knew he wouldnt take the offer so gave him the offer as a snide slap in the face and then issues a statement to the press that sounded classy knowing Abel would implode while his mouth exploded to the media over it. In the end its GGG who is walking away grossly rich so Abel looks like a complete sucker and loser in this one lol. I wish they both left the table with nothing. I hope Steve Rolls KO's GGG next fight and I hope all Sanchez's fighters leave him for being such a disloyal trainer. Both guys suck.
“Big money makes greedy people. Unfortunately, it seems that things do not change in this business – greedy and ungrateful people and no honor. He signs a $100 million contract and insults me with a number that my dignity and pride just won’t allow me to just take it or leave it on a crazy new number for a trainer pay-wise. Give me something so I can sleep at night. The lack of communication was incredible. "I knew this was inevitable weeks ago. But I think it's unfortunate after he signed a $100 million contract … it's disheartening and heartbreaking about the honor of man. I never try to sugar-coat anything, and I always expect the same of everyone."
