If Ward feels pressure from Abel's innocuous comments, then he doesn't deserve to win a fight against Kovalev. Let's just see what Abel says IF Ward ends up winning. I think Andre has mentioned several times that the Golovkin shipped has sailed and that he can't make 168 lbs anymore. Maybe if Gennady is adamant about sharing a ring with him, he'd be willing to move up to maybe somewhere around 170 to get it done. It's a shame that the fight never materialized. They were close enough in weight to get it done a few years ago.
I think it isn't fair to expect Ward to come back down. 172lb is a fair catchweight in my opinion. Once again Sanchez proving he has a big mouth.
Much respect to Golovkin if he decides to meet him that close to the LHW limit. I don't anticipate Ward having a problem coming down just a few pounds. I honestly feel bad for Gennady (or as bad as I can feel for a multimillionaire athlete.) The other champions in his division have been avoiding him like the plague for about 3 years now. It's unacceptable that the sanctioning bodies haven't forced a lot of these champions to fight him already (i.e. Lee, Quillin, Jacobs, Saunders, etc.)
Lee would've taken the fight if he got past Saunders in my opinion. He's a warrior. Quillin is the greatest clown of the lot, he duked Korobov as well.
Unlike Ward, no television network have organised a 'Super Six' style tournament where Gennady could have all his fights in Kazakhstan, all but one in Karaganda. Ward is so spoiled he called his Vegas fight with Carl Froch as an ''away from home'' fight. He's a naturally huge 168 pounder, far bigger than Golovkin.
Triple G's team turned the fight down. There's video of triple g saying "Ward? No he's too much for me"
I don't know all the specific to that, but I was mentioning more about the other fighters at 160, specifically the champions, that haven't shown any interest in attempting to unify the division. A lot of them are guilty of avoiding fights with Golovkin. I've always believed it was an uphill battle for Golovkin to get the other champions inside the ring with him, and even if he were able to do so, that it would take at least 3 or 4 years. He's now in his mid 30's and still hasn't been able to achieve that feat because of the trepidation of other champions at MW. For those reasons, I thought him fighting Ward at 168 would be a much greater feat than anything he could do at 160, and that includes unifying the division. Now with all that being said, i'm not as critical on GGG as some people on here are because I just can't see how you can knock a fighter who wants to unify his weight class. It's an ambitious endeavor to go after and if anything he should be commended and not criticized for it.
Ward's not going to kill himself to make 168 again with $5 million in his pocket. he'd rather sit in oakland and sue people. makes no difference anyway, Kovalev will beat him up.
