The only leverage he has in the negotiation with Canelo are his belts.

We have seen Canelo say such a thing - when he refused to fight Golovkin after becoming WBC champ and promising multiple times to do so.

Anyway... I don't agree with what Abel's saying here. He should be looking to defend his titles against top tier opposition if Alvarez is still trying to play all of 'A-Side' BS post Clen-gate.

Charlo, Dev, Murata, Saunders etc. there are plenty of good options out there for Golovkin that don't involved pampered ginger cheats.

A few days ago, Saunders took to Twitter and said he was "moving on" from the Golovkin negotiations.

He claims Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, had failed to send over the fight contract. Saunders posted an image of a online conversation with Loeffler, which took place several weeks ago. In that conversation, the British champion was pressing to receive the contract and Loeffler promised to send it over.

Warren told Boxing News they "haven't moved on" from the negotiations. He also revealed that a statement would be issued next week with respect to Golovkin vs. Saunders, but wouldn't reveal the exact details of what that statement would be.


Last week, Saunders turned up the heat when he issued a warning to Golovkin and taunted the dangerous puncher to sign the bout agreement.

He fought Brook because that hype job that you love lost his pen, also Brook at 160 is far more a better opponent that a glass chinned welterweight who's been dropped more times than a whores underwear....one fight was planned the other was last minute.

And from what we know he's not yet dropped any belts so why is something that's not actually happened yet a new low?

 

It's getting more and more obvious that he won't fight Derevyanchenko (and will just vacate the IBF belt). Ok, good for him and good for Derevyanchenko.

This is probably in response to the WBC trying to shoe-horn Charlo in as a mando as a way of putting pressure on GGG to fight Canelo. Golovkin is in a really crappy position right now ... sandwiched between IBF, WBC mandatories and Oscar and his ginger biscuit.

Seems to me that if he wants to fight Canelo instead of Derevyanchenko, he's going to have to pay a hefty step aside fee to SD. That's going to be salt in the wounds of getting only 35% for a fight that CANELO pulled out of because he's a cheat.

Personally I think that if he'd unified the Saunders belt instead of fighting Canelo, he could have had an additional 2 fights in the meantime in the form of his two mandos, instead of waiting for Canelo and dancing to Oscar's tune. Canelo would have had no place to go with the Saunders belt gone and GGG'd have been dictating terms right now. In fact the Martirosiyan fight might have been Murata in Japan instead for a nice big payday.
