    On whether he's willing to put Golovkin in against Ward;

    "Physically and technically and mentally? Yes,....But this is a business, and because this is a business, then, financially, no, we're not ready for that. I would like for Golovkin to be on a par with Andre Ward as far as what he has done in his division so that when it comes to a fight, we're not [negotiating] as an opponent. We want to be move up after destroying every fighter who wants to fight us at 160 so that we can be on a par with Andre Ward, but we haven't done that yet. I think that that would be a little unfair for Golovkin to take a secondary position to a guy that we feel that our fighter is just as good as.

    "But Golovkin has to prove it against his peers in the 160-pound division, and we haven't been allowed to do that yet. We're not going to take a second seat to Andre Ward. We have the best fighter in the world, at least we think that we do ... [Ward is] not going to dictate terms to the Golovkin team. That's why I think that it's unfair for Golovkin to be asked to move up at this point, not because he's not ready physically, mentally or technically, because I think that he beats Andre anyway. But I don't want to be at a point where we're not on a par, business-wise."

    So there you have it. Golovkin's trainer believes Golovkin is the best fighter in the world and that Golovkin would beat Ward. However, they are not interested in fighting Ward until it's a more financially viable fight. Hopefully this fight eventually happens.

    Golovkin is a rising tide. There's no need to risk him losing to Ward at this time.

    I think this has kinda been the story right along - both teams have been saying 'not yet' - Golovkins still fighting for 400-500K and his opponents aren't getting much less, I don't know what Ward got to fight La Bomba, but Rodriguez held out for and achieved a million $ purse (which he promptly threw away 200K of for failing to make weight).

    Despite having made big waves in the boxing world GGG still doesn't put the public bums in seats as it were - it's easy to forget as a forum rat that GGG was completely unknown to casual fans little over a year ago.

    Why this year?

    Surely you can endure another year of GGG hype?

    Maravilla. Murray. Geale - these are about the only significant possibilities - after that a move to SMW.

    I'm hoping for at least one of these amongst some second tier fighters - mainly he just needs to stay busy from a business standpoint. The more he KOs guys in front of US audiences the quicker the money comes to make the fights we want.

    Ward's team would take the fight. It's a sensible fight for Ward. The same can't be said for Golovkin. People are only interested in seeing Ward against top level comp. The public is perfectly content seeing Golovkin dismantle overmatched opponents. Golovkin is best suited for MW. No need to go up in weight at this time and risk losing when you can make good money beating up guys like Stevens and Macklin. If it becomes a big money fight, I'm sure Golovkin would fight Ward.

    GGG makes less than a quarter of what Ward does mainly because HBO had all the leverage since GGG was just establishing himself in the U.S. Andre made $1.9 million for Rodriguez, which is more than HBO paid GGG for the three fights he had on the network last year combined.

    The current ratings don't dictate such a disparity. It took a year for Golovkin fights to rate higher than Andre's, which is a crazy growth rate (Stevens-GGG rated higher than Ward-Dawson). In the mean time, Ward's ratings have been declining.

    Abel's right to wait. GGG's numbers are on the upswing, and Ward's stagnating. In another year, he'll have considerably more power at the negotiating table and Ward won't be able to dictate terms to him.

    It makes good business sense and the right thing to do because I don't see GGG beating Ward any time soon. Golovkins team should maximize his profit before putting him in the ring with Andre.

    I think this fight will happen in late 2015. A friend who has access to some inside information told me that we should see some key MW fights this year and they look to move up next year. Hopefully his info is good, but who knows. I really want to see this fight. Currently, I'd be rolling with Ward at the casino, but we'll see what the odds are next year. If GGG has some tasty underdog odds there might be a good play there.

    Been saying this for a while. Plus, Ward does not want the fight yet either. Thats why Ward did not "call out" Golovkin (despite the way some folk here tried to twist it), he just acknowledged a fight was likely to happen down the road.

    Ward needs Golovkin. Ward wants PPV level money. For Ward himself to get to the next level in terms of purses, he cant do it himself. Just like FMJ couldnt. To get that top tier, you need to fight a top drawing opponent. If you look at the landscape, theres only one guy Ward can get in the ring with any time soon that will help make him a PPV star.

    Neither wants the fight yet, and neither side is ducking anyone. When the fight does happen, if GGG loses to Ward it wont mean hes a bum either any more than Froch was a bum for losing to Ward. It will just mean Ward still on track to inherit FMJ #1 p4p status.
