For a bit of fun: For Joshua I'd go: Technique - 8/10 General ring IQ when winning - 8/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 5/10 Power - 9/10 Strength - 8.5/10 Finishing - 9/10 Chin - 7/10 Stamina - 6/10 Recovery - 6/10 Defence - 6/10 Wilder: Technique - 6/10 General ring IQ when winning - 8/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 8/10 Power - 10/10 Strength - 8/10 Finishing - 9.5/10 Chin - 7/10 Stamina - 9/10 Recovery - 7/10 Defence - 6/10 Fury: Technique - 8/10 General ring IQ when winning - 10/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 9/10 Power - 6/10 Strength - 8/10 Finishing - 6/10 Chin - 8/10 Stamina - 9/10 Recovery - 8.5/10 Defence - 9/10 Povetkin: Technique - 9/10 General ring IQ when winning - 9/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 7/10 Power - 7.5/10 Strength - 7/10 Finishing - 8/10 Chin - 8/10 Stamina - 7.5/10 Recovery - 7/10 Defence - 8/10 Parker Technique - 8/10 General ring IQ when winning - 8/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 8/10 Power - 7/10 Strength - 7/10 Finishing - 7/10 Chin - 8.5/10 Stamina - 8.5/10 Recovery - 8.5/10 Defence - 7.5/10 Whyte: Technique - 7/10 General ring IQ when winning - 8/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 8/10 Power - 8/10 Strength - 8.5/10 Finishing - 9/10 Chin - 8/10 Stamina - 8/10 Recovery - 8/10 Defence - 7.5/10 Some notes: Joshua is close to Wilder for power though they have different styles. Wilder has the edge though. Joshua has great IQ and combination of killer instinct and patience when opponent is hurt. But extremely suspect ability to improvise if the wind is blowing against him. This goes back to amateur days Wilder is a superb finisher but can get reckless and tagged and it may cost him some day, hence 9.5 instead of 10
Tough to argue with your ratings, maybe a point or so off on a few spots but that’s obviously completely subjective. I would add two extra criteria to your ratings, speed and reflexes Joshua Speed - 8 Reflexes - 8 Wilder Speed - 9.5 Reflexes - 8.5 Fury Speed - 7.5 Reflexes - 9.5 Parker Speed - 8 Reflexes - 8 I’m sure there’s plenty more but these two attributes could be the difference if/when they face each other. Fun post, thank you.
David Price: Technique - 7/10 General ring IQ when winning - 5/10 General ring IQ when at receiving end - 3/10 Power - 8/10 Strength - 8/10 Finishing - 7/10 Chin - 3/10 Stamina - 3/10 Recovery - 3/10 Defence - 4/10
How you command a fight when on top, and how you manage a whooping in such a way that you're not KO'd and live to fight another round . For example, Wilder managed the asskicking Ortiz put on him very very well. Joshua would have been stopped in those circumstances. Another example would be George Groves. 9/10 when on top but very poor when receiving fire. See first Froch stoppage which wasn't as bad as many people say
Yeah agree apart from strength which I'd put at 7 instead of 8. I don't think he's strong up close and in clinches I'd have put younger Price's power at 9, but even that has dipped recently
So defense? And how do you know Joshua would have been stopped? Because Ruiz pulled it off? You had Wilder's General ring IQ when winning 8/10... Wtf does that even mean? Is he able to control his opponents with feints and such? Is he able to find openings? Or is he able to create openings? Setting traps? Setting the pace? Dictating distance and where the fight is being held? 8/10 sounds like Wilder is an elite boxer. Yet we have seen him miss badly countless times and get brutally countered for it. The reason Wilder had to survive against Ortiz was because Ortiz countered him. If Wilder's ring IQ is so high when not getting his ass handed to him, then how come was he unable to touch Fury? There are not such things as ring IQ when winning and when in survival mode. What if you and your opponent are equal? What if neither are in control?
It's a lighthearted and subjective post but I see a clear pattern in fighters who perform inconsistently when the plan is working versus when it isn't. You could lump it in with defence sure. But I personally think it's more complex than that. You could frame it as ability to improvise
Or lack of ring craft? Aka boxing ability. And what is improvising to you? Like an example of a fighter improvising.
Any trace of a workable game plan goes out the window and you're in their totally alone and getting a degree of whoopass on you, perhaps by s style you're ill-adjusted to. Or alternatively, you know your regular game won't work so you come in completely new. Think Ali Foreman - all the hot air about dancing and he just rope-a-doped, absorbed and let him gas out instead. This isn't rocket science
