I've noticed that some fighters just can't seem to throw a clean straight punch. The best examples i've a seen are figters like Hatton and Calzaghe. Their punches seem choppy and not properly or fully extended. This seems most prevelent in caucasian fighters, while black and hispanic boxers seem to be alot looser with there punches being able to fully extend. Being caucasion myself I throw fom the southpaw stance and I seem to have the same problem with extension on my straight left. Anyone else think of this when they watch euro fighters? It seems to be something inherent in body mechanics for certain ethnic groups.
Caucasian what are you a census survey? Just say your white and you cant punch your way out of a wet paper bag.
Saw the title and thought Wlad. It depends on size, reach, leverage, and gameplan, if you are an in-fighter, or someone who generally is outreached, your best punches will be hooks, uppercuts etc If you are a bigger man or an outfighter your best punches will be straight ones, because these maximize your advantage. Ricky Hattons plan was to get inside with his good footspeed, busy his oponent with a few jabs, and then open up on the body with hooks. Straight punches don't feature much there.
Wlad does throw straight punches indeed, but look at the 2 examples I gave . I thought of Calzaghe because of how much praise he seems to get but watching him and hatton makes me laugh because it's amazing how much they did with such horrible technique.
Well I answered your bit about Hatton above, and Calzaghe was a south-paw and a high workrate fighter, that = him being on the inside of his opponent a hell of a lot, again, not ideal situations for straight punches.
Yeah. Shawn Por-derp. An-derp B'derp-to. Derp-von Alexan-derp. Derp-vid Haye. An-derp Derp-ell. Pretty much all these wannabe slicksters who rely on just work rate and/or hand speed, and miss 90% of the time because their shots are all flying off in a chaotic spray like Chinese New Year's firecrack'rs.
I see the point about the style of fighters that these men where and I agree with that, however when they did throw straight punches they looked like dogcrap. I mean watching hatton his "straght" punch is either wide or overhand and very choppy. I do like Hatton though alot and thought he gave his all vs mayweatherr. Calzaghe on the other hand while he was successful, is just horrible to watch it's like watching someone run the wrong direction but still wins the race just strange.
If anything Euro fighters are well known to have straight jabs and very good short straight right hands, and it's the left hooks that they seem to lack. Think Wlad and Tszyu, that is the style people most often attribute to eastern european fighters.
Not that I subscribe to this ridiculous theory on ethnic punching technique, I would like to mention Katsidis and his chicken wing over hand right, as an example of a fighter with skewed punching trajectory.
Its amazing all the **** people give wlad. After watching that greatest hits video i think the dude deserves more respect.
