Ability-wise, is it wrong to consider Wilfredo Gomez one of the top 10 fighters ever?

Certainly one of the best fighters I've ever seen on film. For me, his best performance is against Davila. Most would say the Yum fight but he got sat on his arse in the first round and got buzzed a few rounds later, even if he did take control and put it all together in breathtaking fashion it seemed to me he'd already started to fall in love with his power at that point. I thought he was back to his patient best against Zarate but both men's weight problems and the dirty end to the fight means I'll stick with Davila as his best showing; punch perfect ring generalship.

One of the top ten? For me I rank ability not just on what I see but what kinda' opponent it was proven against. Davila was a bit green. But as I don't have a 'top ten fighters on film at their very best' list I'll just say yes it is possible and I wouldn't really argue. I will argue against Gomez being one of the true greats of the sport; he was only good at feather. Being the absolute best at a ******* division and being able to accomplish nothing but competitiveness against the very best only 4lbs above is proof of that IMO.

At 122? No one beats him IMO, not anyone that actually fought there anyway. Jofre would be the best bet for me. Even the best 'lightweights' that have fought there in the modern era would struggle against an on song Bazooka IMO (Morales, Barrera) he just had too much of everything there.

Juan Antonio Lopez 1 deserves a mention.

    Almost perfect performance.

Their second fight really shows how far Gomez has regressed since his early mobile boxer-puncher days.
