Seen it somewhere. I guess turning down the $1 mill wasn't a great move because Hose Sillyman forced his mandatory and he didn't want to wait one more fight for Donaire? Arum said the lawyers were working on it and they would revisit the issue for Donaire's next fight, provided he beats Rigo of course.

gbp should have put mares best interest first before theirs and accepted the 1mil offer for him.

According to 90% of fans, if they were consistent in the use of the term, Mares is shamefully ducking the **** out of Victor Terrazas. Stylistically, Terrazas is a nightmare for Mares. Terrazas fights like a man, and ate Montiel's pressure for dinner... Since the Donaire failed negotiations, the WBC has come out saying Terrazas is next or vacate the belt. Shame, as I wanted to really see Terrazas in a big fight.

    Terrazas- 5'7" height, 69" reach
    Mares- 5'4.5" height, 66" reach

Some speculation as to whether it is a good idea for Mares to move up at this point, but he is with GBP and Mexican so there is probably some sort of WBC belt in it for him.

  5. I agree Terrazas would be a very awkward fight for Mares, similar to how Mathebula was for Donaire. I'd still favour Mares to do enough to win though

Daniel Ponce de Leon WBC title fight in the fall?

If that's the plan, give me Jhonny Gonzalez now, Ponce at years' end.

So, let us reflect on Mares' 122 pound legacy:

    2-0
-W UD12 Eric Morel for vacant WBC title at 120 pound catchweight.
    * Morel was utterly undeserving and got the **** beat out of him before, during, and after this fight.
-W UD12 Anselmo Moreno defense of WBC title
    * Moreno's first world class fight at the weight. Highlights include Mares throwing 50+ low blows and during the iffy KD call, managing to square up and punch Moreno on the buttocks over the top of his back. And somehow Moreno gets deducted a point when Mares fights the dirtiest fight in boxing since... Mares vs. Agbeko I. Fun times.

Cheers to Mares' killer 122 pound resume...

Terrazas is with Zanfer so that fight was never going to happen anyway and this saves a pointless purse bid.

    I picked Moreno to win.

I scored it 114-112 for Mares. But the KD was iffy (as Mares landed a literal butt punch after the shot that dropped Moreno), and the point deduction from Moreno was laughable. Mares deserved to have a point taken from him as early as round 5, dude. And he continued going low fighting dirty. Good win, but he was spotted points and preserved points which would have led to a Moreno victory on my card and a couple others.

Good win for Mares. But in the breaking down of each fight, it warrants a parenthesis as does the Agbeko I fight.

Maybe so. I'd pick a close Mares decision.

Still a top 10 122 pounder worthy of being an actual "mandatory."

I'm not a fanboy of either side, but GBP offered both guys more money to put on the fight themselves, and Arum and Donaire refused.
